Winter climbing or ice climbing requires a diverse set of skills and more robust, vigorous tools compared with standard climbing or trad climbing. One essential piece of equipment is the X Dream Ice Pick from Cassin. The pick includes a swing and torque tweaking function which when altered, makes it easier to grip brittle ice.

The modernistic design means that it strikes the perfect balance between light but still strong and able-bodied when you are making progress up that challenging, vertical ascent.
A swift turn of the Allen bolt above the grip allows the tool to be switched between Dry and Ice positions by changing the angle of the handle in relation to the angle of the pick. In the Dry position, the handle kicks upward for a more down and out pull. The Ice position drops the handle for a more natural swing.
Tailor the X-Dream to your preferred climbing style with micro-adjustable trigger fingers (choose from two inserts - the X-Finger Small or the X-Finger Large that can be flipped over to adjust the position - included) and the removable X-Rest insert which adjusts the overall height of the handle.
With the X-Dream, you are actually getting a multi-purpose piece of equipment - a fully optimised axe for technical ice and an aggressive dry tooling machine. It can be fitted with four different T-rated picks for various types of terrain. From ice-climbing opportunities at sites ranging from volcanoes in the Pacific Northwest to spectacular frozen waterfalls, choose the Mixte pick, Ice Pick, Race Pick or Total Dry Pick, depending on the type of traction that you will need, then slide them together. This will minimise ice penetration. The X-Dream comes standard with the Mixte Pick. Other picks can be purchased separately.
