Take your actual body measurements as they are more accurate than measuring over your clothes or shoes.
Feet: Use a ruler or tape measure to measure your foot (from the heel to the tip of your longest toe) Be sure to measure both feet. Many people have feet of different sizes. Fit to the larger of the two.
Remember, feet can expand over a quarter size during a full day's walk so ensure you get the right fit.
Very pleased with the fit and feel of these boots. Fairly lightweight yet sturdy and supportive at the ankle. Perfectly waterproof yet dried out well overnight at room temperature and the leather remains supple. It's early days but I think an excellent buy at a reasonable price.
I've owned a pair of these boots for the last year and a half. It's nice to finally own a boot that I have worn out instead of falling apart!
These are on my feet all day everyday and have been used from walking on pavements to hiking across mountains, through grass and streams and have never failed me yet.
Although now that I've worn them out (soles are now nearly flat) and some of the leather work is starting to come undone, it's time to buy another pair.
I haven't had wet feet yet!!
The one I had was the explorer ridge before this newer gtx version came out. I has the older version for 4 years, only currently use it for cycling as the rubber sole has completely wore off down to the sponge? layer. I wear it almost 90% of the time... roughly 900+days? Of all these 4 years, never have I had problem with it or have i even look after it. No waterproofing no wax nothing. I think the daily use and drying is the key to great shoe life. Don't leave shoe unused in wet or damp condition or stored for too long as the glue on the sole will come off (ever tried glueing stuff on wet rubber or leather?). The only thing I disagree with berghaus is the rubber sole. It is slippery when wet (walking on wet boulders) and slips easily on frosty asphalt. Hence the 3 stars. Even a cheap safety shoe has more grip than berghaus.
Had these boots for a few months but waited till now to review after some seriously wet weather. Having had a pair of Berghaus Expeditor AQ ridge previously which leaked like a sieve from new I was apprehensive, but these are like chalk and cheese in comparison, my feet were 100% dry, even after walking through ankle deep streams and ditches. They have always been as comfortable as slippers straight from the box and the grip on slippery mountain sides is as good as anything else I've worn apart from football boots but they wouldn't be very comfortable on a 20 mile hike. Very pleased with my new boots and will buy another pair when these wear out, not too soon I hope
I have had a pair of these boots for over 12 months. I dont use them for dog walking like some of the other reviewers. I have instead put at least a couple of hundred miles on them in the Scottish Mountains in all weather and all terrains. I have waded through ankle deep streams and bog in them without any water ingress. The sole hasn't worn out any faster than other boots I have owned, and they are still waterproof. They needed very little breaking in and were comfortable straight from the box. Maybe I just got lucky and got a good pair or maybe its because I look after them properly. I honestly dont understand the poor reviews given on here. Great pair of boots and better than some of the more expensive ones I own.
Owned both an older version and this newer version. Disappointed with both. Soles wore out on the new version within 6 months of mainly light dog walking. In addition they're so flat footed they left me crippled with heel pain. Fortunately now own a pair of Salomon and my feet are slowly recovering. If it was possible to give a boot a negative rating this would be it. Top marks for Go Outdoor in allowing an exchange.
Have two pairs of these. Both leak. Not worth the money I paid. Used for fogwalking. They are comfortable but that is their Only saving grace. Cannot recommend this product
Look good and very comfy, don't let water in but the sole is awful not lasted 4 months of dog walking . Have resorted to using a pair of work boots half the cost and a sole good in all weathers after 6 months of wear still going strong . I will not be buying Berghaus footwear again . Shocking !
I have had several pairs if its predecessor but have not yet tried the new 'Plus' type. I note that the Flex Groove in the sole has been omitted in the re-design. The flexibility was an important factor in the comfort of the boots and should have been retained.
Ive been working outdoors 3 to 4 hours standing outside in the wet stormy weather doing security work. I have to admit these boots are very comfortable and have kept my feet dry. They do what it says on the tin. I have been on pavement most of te time and theyve gripped very well in slush and wet conditions.
Ive had them for a month or so now and hopefully theyll last me a few winters.
Pair lasted 4 months before they split on edge of midsole.. Assumed I must have caught a sharp rock and it split the sole and leather edge.
Apparently this isn't a warranty issue, and was caused by human damage.
Go outdoors as good will gesture gave me significant discount on another make!
Would have been 0 stars but cannot submit that.
I have not had a good experience of any of the Berghaus products I have owned:. 2 leaking gtx coats and a pair of self destructing Explorer Ridge boots. Before I buy another pair of these boots I seek assurances from Berghaus regarding the following point. The soles were ok for traction of grass, mud and the like but show them a damp pavement, rock, stone or similar and they instantly became lethal. No "sticky" traction whatsoever. My Clarks everyday office shoes provded better grip. Despite regular cleaning and leather treatment the uppers of both boots split across just below the first lacing point where they flex with the bending of toes. Not only did they split there, in the dame areas on both boots the leather and the soles parted company. These were about 18 months old when they headed for the wheely bin! The good news was that I never had wet or even damp feet! Will Berghaus please assure me that all these matters have been properly addressed in the new incarnation? By the way, a colleague also bought a pair of these boots and suffered the same catalogue of failures in a similar time scale. In the meanwhile, yours in anticipation, An Ex Berghaus Customer.
btw. They get 1 star rating by default as there isn't a no star option
I have had these for about 6 months now, having finally given up on a different pair of uncomfortable boots. They have proved to be very comfortable and, following a couple of recent walks I can confirm that they are waterproof too, although I have given them a few nikwax treatments whilst breaking them in and will continue to do so in order to maintain both comfort and waterproofing..
These boots seem even better value at the current price and I don't think they would disappoint!
Even more comfy than the previous version of Explorer Ridge (of which I have had 3 pairs over the last few years) - and they were comfy!
Pros: Comfortable, dry, light, well made, stable.
Cons: None that I can think of!
Good boot good price
Had these boots 6 months now and covered a little over 500 miles very comfortable.. however they have started to leak. Wore them in wet grass on Sunday and today Tuesday I can still feel the damp in them. Dissapointed.
Noticed the first two reviews and i must say I don't know what some people get up to, I am a wildlife photographer the I have used this range of Berghaus boot for many years from the tropics to the high arctic, once walked through flood water for three miles with gear and my boots never leaked, not a drop, would never use any other boot, if anybody ask me what boot to buy for a hard life would be the Explorer Ridge...........
boot is leaking water after 5 weeks,
fairly comfortable, but i never feel my feet are dry....
this is the 2nd pair of boots i had and after afew months wear they are letting the water in again so off to go outdoors to get them changed but for a different make
