Take your actual body measurements as they are more accurate than measuring over your clothes or shoes.
Feet: Use a ruler or tape measure to measure your foot (from the heel to the tip of your longest toe) Be sure to measure both feet. Many people have feet of different sizes. Fit to the larger of the two.
Remember, feet can expand over a quarter size during a full day's walk so ensure you get the right fit.
Wore these on the 4 day hike up machu pichu with no problems, come back home worn in the wet & they kept my feet dry but really cold when wet. Now use for summer days and dry winter days.
Bought these Merrell Moab 2 shoes a few weeks ago and find them to be comfortable, waterproof and not slippy in the rain, I am a fell walker and its Wet in the Lake District, vibram soles doing well.
I wore these shoes to commute to work. They’ve had no serious outdoor use other than this. BOTH shoes have split at the little toe after 2 months leaving gaping holes. Buy a £30 pair of Karrimor.
All day in a heavy rain and these shoes did not get wet. I am positively surprised
I got these shoes as a goodwill upgrade after I was sent the wrong shoes to what I originally ordered. The shoes are very comfortable, however not waterproof as I recently found out. Be aware of this.
They are ok on soft terrain, but when cought in bit of a rain, whole shoes and feet got all soaking wet, therefore not very waterproof. When walking on tarmac feel like walking in high heels too.
Really really comfortable straight out of the box but 3 huge issues. 1) As others have said, slippery when wet. 2) Waterproofing not great - had wet feet after walking though damp dewy grass. 3) not built to last. Had less than a year and rubber has split in places and the fabric has torn around toe joints. very disappointed. my last pair of £30 karrimors faired better.
As others before have mentioned, these shoes are really comfortable from straight out the box and are a good broad fitting shoe which I like however they are lethal in wet conditions (on any smooth surface like wet pavement or rocks), i have been on my backside twice already. Also the right shoe has now developed a loud creeking noise when walking. Only had them two months. Great in dry conditions (bought as a waterproof shoe) but not much use otherwise.
Probably about my 6th pair of Merrells and I have seen the quality diminish over the period. They are still comfortable but leak due to splitting on each shoe around the rubber band area. These ones are just over a year old whereas previous ones lasted a bit longer. Will need to replace them now, but not sure what with. Will have to do some research before spending another £103.
So i waited a while before i did this review and finally say am some what disappointed...
I usually buy Merrell's because they are good quality and offer a wider fitting which is great and comfy. My previous Merrell's were Chameleon Wrap Slam 2 shoes that i wore for years and no issues in terms of ware and tare and i took these on a lot of rough terrain hikes. But last year i thought is was time for a change and after looking at a lot of good reviews i thought i would try the Moab 2 GTX shoe.
First impressions great comfy shoe all round! I wore this daily and tried it on a few hikes but nothing to major and in a light few showers my feet were dry. However after about 6 months the protective toe area has started to tare on the right shoe either side. The material which is rubber has become really soft and split, which am really surprised at due to the fact my Slams have lasted longer and still in good nik and have been through a lot more!
So am wondering now if the Mid boot Moab 2 GTX will come to the same fate as i purchased a pair thinking that these ones were good after having them 2 months in.
So i gave it a 3 star due to comfort, wider fitting and with standard light showers. But lost 2 stars due to the durability and quality of the material.
So if you decide to purchase a pair just to cautious that if you decide to take these on advance hikes, rocky terrain etc the durability of these shoes may not last.
I bought these a year ago and they are extremely comfortable and light. The only problem is that the slightest bit of water on a rocky surface turns them into ice skates. Even on a wet pavement they are a bit dicey. If your going somewhere dry they are great. If there is any chance of water being involved look elsewhere.
I have a number of shoes with the vibram soul as I find them long lasting with good feel and flexibility. which is the main reason for my purchase . they have performed well and as I expected having other shoes from the manufacturer of both the soul and the upper hardly know I'm wearing them and very good at keeping the water out and my feet dry and warm
would I buy again definitely, no negatives at all
Bought these a few weeks ago and so far none of the problems other people have reported.
I have fallen arches(flat feet),none of this medical terms for me,I removed the insole that came with the product and fitted a superfeet insole.Being a 70year old I've manage to walk some miles in
the moab2's without any foot problems. The item fits like a glove and at times I feel as if I am bare footed. Not tested them in bouncing down sort of weather yet so can't comment on that side. This is not the first pair of merrells I've had and will certainly buy some more.
Really comfortable and sturdy. 2nd pair of Merrell shoes I've had but these ones have the Vibram sole which makes them even better. So far so good! I would recommend them.
Took delivery of these extremely comfy walking shoes, they fit like a glove, had to go up one size to get the right fit. No rubbing.
First day of wearing these Goretex waterproof shoes we got caught in a shower and my feet where soaked within minutes.
I have recently bought these shoes - I have only worn them for 4 continuous days. New shoes are not usually as comfortable as these are - no problems despite road walking about 26 miles in them over the four days. I am usually fairly heavy on shoes - I can often wear them out in 3 months - I do hope these last longer than that! Ask me again in 6 or 9 months time and I may be able to tell you more.
As someone who has an active Springer Spaniel as a pet, and lives on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, I have owned and thoroughly worn out 5 pairs of the Moab 1 GTX approach shoes. As long as you kept them clean and cared for, they were, in my opinion, the best approach shoe on the market. The fit was perfect, and they were so comfortable that a 20 mile hike was a decent test of the shoe, but the shoe met the challenge through amazing support.
But of course, we live in a society where driving sales through new releases is a necessity, and in doing so, Merrell have ruined this fine shoe. There are two main problems with this release as I see it:
1) They have changed the configuration of the top of the shoe and the lace eyelets have moved ever so slightly, the result is disastrous... The new position places too much stress through the top of the shoe, and doing them up any tighter than a very loose draw on the lace results in a tremendous amount of pressure building across the top of my foot, when stationary or walking. As soon as I undo the laces and slacken right off, then the pressure dissipates. When loose enough not to cause this pressure buildup, the heel starts to slip and rub. I have spoken to my father who also owns a pair who has confirmed that he has had the same issue.
2) Arch support - there is barely any. Since buying these shoes, I have actually been diagnosed with Plantar Fasciitis, and I truly believe that the horrible arch support in this shoe is a significantly contributing factor, although it is almost impossible to 100% ascertain the reason, having discontinued the use of these shoes, the symptoms have significantly reduced.
The pair that I owned were also faulty in that they developed a squeak out of the sole which was loud enough to be embarrassing.
Needless to say, the pair that I owned have been consigned to the bin. I have instead gone for a pair of Meindl Response GTX, and whilst I don't think they are as good as the original Moab 1 GTX, they are infinitely superior to this version of the shoe.
Bought these 6-7 months ago and they were initially fine, quite comfortable and light; however after 6-7 month these have started leaking really badly. One side more than the other but both have failed big-time. Unusually I did not purchase them from GoOutdoors, but I wish I had as I lost my receipt and GoOutdoors would have had a record of purchase from my loyalty card. Lesson learnt. First I should have bought from GO instead of impulse buying from elsewhere and secondly I'll never buy another Merrell product again.
Great shoes ... I wear them every day and find them a great fit and very comfortable to wear. I have bought them before and will do so again!
I had high hopes for what I believed was a high quality brand.
Within days I realised these were dangerous on wet pavements, within 7 months like other reviewers splitting around small toe area.
