Updated for 2014, Berghaus' versatile GORE-TEX jacket is ready for any serious outdoor pursuit.
GORE-TEX® TechnologiesThe Berghaus Mera Peak IV Men's Waterproof Jacket is an update of their long-standing favourite, with its high performance GORE-TEX membrane and practical, unrestrictive design.
New and improved, it takes protection for tough UK winters to new levels. Combining highly durable fabric in key areas of wear and tear, with tough nylon in the main body, you are well protected - even in the worst conditions.
It has a roomy but fully adjustable fit, and this coupled with the arm articulation allows for full and easy movement in any direction without you losing coverage - it will keep you protected no matter what you're doing or how you're moving.
The large full-mountain hood can be worn over a hat or helmet easily, and can be rolled away and secured when not needed.
Key placement of reflective details ensures good visibility when starting early and finishing late on big winter adventures.

Take your actual body measurements as they are more accurate than measuring over your clothes or shoes.
CHEST: Measure around the fullest part of your chest, making sure to keep the tape under the arms and around your shoulder blades.
WAIST: Measure around the smallest part of your waist (natural waistline).
HIPS: Stand with your heels together and measure around the fullest part.
INSIDE LEG: Measure from the top of your inner leg, along the inside seam to the bottom of your leg.
I have always brought Berghaus top end jackets as the construction & design always delivered.
Not true of this one!
I was surprised by the finer zip than the usual more chunky YKK. I was right to be sceptical as this now fails more often than not, a truly awful fail in an extreme jacket. The Velcro curls up over time & the pockets don't protect contents.
It feels cheap & you are better off spending this kind of money elsewhere.
I feel betrayed by Berghaus.
I found one of these jackets in a Salvation Army Charity Shop and it was in perfect condition. I wear it most days and best I've ever had - best thing was i only paid £1.00 for it !!!!
Bought online using Berghaus's sizing - had to go back to the shop to get the next size up. I think their sizes must assume only one or two thin layers underneath. I bought this for winter dog walking in all weather, so a fleece is needed too! So for me, a 40" chest needs a Large size. Also, the hood was too tight with the Medium.
Haven't been in a deluge but steady rain doesn't penetrate. Hood is large and cosy, although stows untidily.
Too few pockets - the Peter Storm that this replaces has seven, all zipped, including a useful phone pocket accessible from outside but within the zip flap. The Mera has five, only three zipped, and not soft lined for the hands.
The zip - the zip does not inspire confidence. It is quite small and fiddly, and initially it consistently mated incorrectly when done up, and I thought I would have to make another journey - but it has bedded in. But it is a concern, it really doesn't seem man enough for the job.
The old Peter Storm was better equipped and cost about a third of the price. BUT it is now not waterproof after about 5 years. So if the Mera lasts longer than that, maybe it is good value. I think you pay a lot for the Gore and Berghaus names. I probably won't lash out again.
Bought this jacket today.
By coincidence, it stated chucking it down with rain. Perfect opportunity! I walked home wearing my new Mera Peak and it worked perfectly.
Normally when I walk that route I end up very sweaty and damp, but wearing this jacket I was dry after the walk. Did not leak even slightly.
Very, very expensive (£243 with discount card) but I was looking to pay more for a quality jacket that will last a good few winters.
I also am concerned about the zips. but has kept me dry so far. I certainly preferred the previous model
