Too stiff to be of use

Disappointed with this item.
The material is a very hard type of PVC, which stinks, but would eventually lose the smell, but because it's so stiff, will not lay flat, and it also slides around on the carpet.
It just becomes a trip hazard.
I've binned mine within a week.
