Simply great
Simple and functional. I've used one as my main belay device for years and I love it. It does demand more care than asissted devices so experience helps. If a mate is working a sport route on a single rope and likely to be dangling around for a while I will use a Click-up or Gri-gri but for an all round belay device and for double ropes my ATC is my first choice every time.

ATC
Classic, simple, functional. no confusing teeth, or odd symmetry, easy to use and totally functional. Smooth, and never encountered any slipping, even on lead falls.

Its the classic device and very well made, it can do whatever you ask of it. But the ATC-XP renders it a little obsolete, being superior in most ways. I'd recommend going up a tier if possible as such
