Men's Footwear Size Guide

Measuring tips

Take your actual body measurements as they are more accurate than measuring over your clothes or shoes.

Feet: Use a ruler or tape measure to measure your foot (from the heel to the tip of your longest toe) Be sure to measure both feet. Many people have feet of different sizes. Fit to the larger of the two.

Remember, feet can expand over a quarter size during a full day's walk so ensure you get the right fit.

Wear experience

Very comfortable and a nice wide fitting. Unfortunately in my experience not waterproof, although go outdoors advertise them as such.
Good for light trekking or general use in dry weather.

Instant comfort from these shoes, offer great support.
Worn almost everyday for three years but no longer waterproof.

Over 1250 miles in the same pair of shoes!

I trekked over 1,250 miles in the same pair of Meindl Respond GTX shoes only changing the in-soles and laces as a precaution after 600 miles. Most comfortable trekking shoes I've ever owned.

Excellent shoes

My last shoes were merrels which I'd had for 4yrs. Decided to spend that extra money on these meindls, not disappointed- these shoes are superb. Comfy straight away dont need wearing in at all. Happy!

Sole worn just after 1 year

The sole wore through just after 1 year of moderate use. The rubber sole is quite thin in places & the underside of the sole is a tough plastic and carbon fibre. The rubber has started to wear through and peel off the sole.

Am very disappointed that this happened out of warranty and after only 1 year given the price.

In the first year though the shoes were very comfortable and waterproof so were great in this respect.

Meindl Respond GTX Walking Shoe

Sole wore through within the warranty period when I had hardly used them (about 100 miles). I returned them as defective but Meindl's UK warranty turns out to be utterly useless. They are marketed as "sturdy off-road shoes, built for tough trekking over varied terrain" but Meindl reported they are instead a "lighter, casual shoe [compared to their boots which I have no issues with] and wear depends on the surface walked on, amount they are worn & the gait of the wearer". And they failed to offer me anything, let alone the necessary replacements. So be warned as none of my other footwear has worn out after such little use and I sent in pictures to prove it!

Very comfortable from day 1

I struggle to find shoes and walking boots that are comfortable and often have to suffer blisters for a long time before shoes fit to my feet, sometimes they never get there. These Meindl shoes have been comfortable from day 1, are light and cool in hot weather. I haven't yet tested them in wet weather, but we've got off to a very good start.

Really comfortable and useable straight out of the box!!

While here in Spain I would not expect too much wet use I have found in cooler months these shoes are really comfortable, fit really well and are useable straight out of the box. I normally have a size 43 (9) but for both of my new footwear from GoOutdoors of Meindl I have found that the extra 1/2 size fits the very well. Just hope they last as long as they should for the price. Very happy with both at the moment.

Does what it says on the tin

So far so good. These are my second pair of Meindl shoes. Very comfortable and a good fit. My main requirement was waterproof, having tried another brand and found wet feet after short walk in wet grass (and no it didn't come over the top). Fingers crossed with these.

Comfortable and light weight but not waterproof or hard wearing

Bought a pair of these from a different store. Whilst comfortable and lightweight they def weren't waterproof or even water resistant. A simple bit of dew made my toes wet after just a few minutes walking. Also after about 4 months use holes appeared on the toe crease where on material met another. Not worth the money...

amazing light hiker

This wil be my third set, I already have worn two other pair of Responds. This means I like this shoe very much, great for colder and rainy days thanks to GoreTex.. The GoreTex is a welcome addition when walking on wet and cold terrain.

Not really suitable for summer days, as the breathability is not that good thanks to the Gore tex.

My two other pairs never leaked or became wet inside, I only replaced them because the sole was worn bald....

Great lightweight walking shoes

Very comfortable, took no breaking in,
Lightweight and great for trails and fairly rocky paths. Good all round shoe for when you don’t want to carry your boots too.
Easy to wear walking around town too.

Noisy

ordered my size from GoOutdoors as not in stock and a test in store seemed fine however since I've been wearing them to break them in they are the noisiest walking shoes I've ever had. What is presumably the inner goretex layer is making a 'flapping' sound when I walk, or even just shifting my weight from one foot to the other. This is around the bend in the foot and it is extremely annoying to be walking around and can constantly hear a sound like I'm wearing flip flops. I've tried tightening them more than is comfortable to reduce the bending thus the noise (didn't work); tried them looser than I would like (didn't work); I've bent them, I've moved the uppers around to make them more flexible (didn't work). It's not the soles, it's the upper and must be the less flexible Goretex layer.

Meindl

Bought a pair 2 weeks ago, and I have just finished doing the west highland way, without getting one single blister, I never even wore them in before starting the walk. Brilliant shoes, totally advice anyone to buy a pair.

Good all round walking shoe

Well fitting walking shoe, took a few days of light use for them to become comfortable but now they feel very good. Enough support for trail walking and a bit of scrambling. Seem reasonably breathable to me - my feet aren't a sweaty mess after wearing them! Can't say how waterproof they are as I've not tested, but if I was planning on walking all day in the rain I'd wear full boots as these are basically glorified trainers with a stiffer sole. I like them a lot and they feel tougher than some of the cheaper walking shoes I've had in the past.

the best

my third pair of this great shoe.just walked the camino del norte in spain over 600km of rain, mud, sea, sand, asphalt and rocky paths. The meindle respond gtx performed brilliantly day after day leaving my feet fresh and blister free. The shoe cups the heel well and gives great support to the ankle.very light in weight yet sturdy in construction. This shoe looks good with a pair of jeans down the pub !.excellent product.

Not waterproof

Great looking shoes. Well designed, very comfortable. Entirely breathable. However they are NOT waterproof. Wore them for 40 minutes in rain and found socks were wet in shoe, i dread to think how they would have been if i were out for longer. Such a shame from Meindl as they certainly meet requirements on every other front. Think twice about wearing these at length if the forecast is rain.

Great shoe

I've just ordered my second pair of these to use on the West Highland Way in a couple of months time. My first pair have lasted me 2 years of daily dog / hill walking. They've been great. I use my own insole however due to being a flatfooted freak of nature but overall these shoes have been brilliant.

Doesn't breathe

Very comfortable to wear straight out of the box, waterproof in my experience but they just don't breathe and your feet are like steaming puddings even after a short walk.
I took them to walk the 800kms Camino de Santiago trail and other than the breathability issues they were OK in the snow, slurry mud, rocks and asphalt (though Vibram' soles may have been a better choice) Sometimes I had to take my boots off to let them breathe. I would buy Meindl again but not Goretex footwear.
