I've owned two pairs of these now. The first pair were superb, I walked thousands of miles in them until the soles were flat and the inside sole was worn through. I'm still wearing them now, but they do have some holes. The impressive thing was that they remained 100% waterproof for the first year, anything up to 1,000 miles of pretty hard going walking. So I replaced them like for like - the second pair haven't been so good, they are just as comfy and well made but were never as waterproof, letting in water from early on. It must depend on the quality of manufacture unfortunately, which at this price is a shame. I'm still coming back to look at getting a third pair though, as they are well made in terms of the terrain I've put them through, they seem to hold up very well across boggy moors and getting scuffed and bent all over.

Extremely comfortable from the first time I put them on. A very supportive sole and great for long walks. Haven't tried them in extreme conditions, but as reviewed previously, I suspect they will be more showerproof than waterproof.
As regards issues noted with the laces, I always tie my shoes and boots with a double not, so I haven't experienced any problems.

I've had these shoes for a little while now and worn them in all terrains. They a comfortable pair of shoes, and I have only had to replace the inner soles cos I've worn them so much! However, I do feel the description is misleading as NO shoe is waterproof in this style regardless of the statement in the description surrounding the use of Gore Tex in this shoe (actually Gore Tex would probably say the same thing). I'm actually at a loss as to why they have included a Gore membrane in a shoe like this. What I am alluding to is that the shoe has an open weave soft mesh toe and sides area - this will always let water in. I would say the shoes are water resistant not water proof. If you want waterproofing you are going to need to choose something more substantial. This doesn't need to be pricey, as I've said you don't need a Gore membrane and as such will likely pay less for a better performing shoe. That said, if you are in warm climes and are after a decent rambling shoe with an occasional short shower these are for you.

I bought mine 18 months ago and I wear them every day. As a keen walker I try to do 10 mile a day in summer and sometimes up to 20. On my walking app I have done around 2500 miles this year alone (always in the merrells). Well they have been fantastic, the soles are very very worn out now but the stitching is all intact and if I wash them they still look good. Laces were a problem coming undone when I 1st got them so I swapped them for another pair. Almost ready for the bin now but I'm going to drag every last mile out of them even though we are down to the foam now and leaky.

These walking shoes are exactly as they say on the tin. comfortable, great grip and waterproof. great buy

Firstly I have to agree with Ginge. I bought these as wanted a pair of waterproof shoes and was advised these would not let me down due to the Gortex liner. I have worn them about 5 - 6 times and today walking through wet grass which was only about 2 - 3 inches high my right sock was soaking after about a quarter of a mile. You don't expect this for around 80 - 100 pound. Although very comfortable the lases coming loose drives you mad.

Used nearly everyday for about a month. Excellent comfort, stable underfoot on uneven surfaces, socks don't creep under your foot (has been a problem with other shoes) I would be happy to wear these all day long without the Ahh.... when taking them off. Not had a problem with laces as another reviewer has. Recommended.

i have had these trainers for 9 months. really disapointed. it is my third pair but now useless, the rubber toe area is perished and split and the goretex membrane has failed so my feet get wet just walking in damp grass. Will buy another make next time.

I bought these shoes a few months ago and have only managed to wear them a few times due to a ridge which is causing irritation under the laces/tongue on the left shoe . I thought this would go with usage but sadly no. I am hoping the Coatbridge store will be able to help me out tomorrow as I do love the shoes. Also, whilst not such a big issue, I agree with the other postings regarding laces..they do come undone far too easily

I wear them to walk 6-7 miles a day in most weathers and have found them to be great. Only had damp feet once in nearly a year and to be fair they hadn't had been allowed to dry properly for about 3 days. So good I've bought another pair whilst they're on offer to keep until these wear out

It took a long time to finally select these shoes. I tried every pair of shoes they had in the store but it was only these that felt comfortable. There is always a slight gamble when you buy shoes/boots as you are unable to test them under outdoor walking conditions. What feels comfortable in the shop doesn't necessarily mean they won't hurt you when on your feet for several hours doing a walk. However, I am pleased to say that these shoes have remained comfortable and supportive outdoors. They are not the cheapest (by far) but, as they are Merrell, I expect them to last a long time. GO OUTDOORS in Manchester were superb in their customer service. I must have been there almost 2 hours whilst they supplied dozens of shoes to both myself and my wife to try out (my wife's were the most expensive pair they sold) and nothing was too much trouble to them. So a special thank-you to James & Steve for excellent service far beyond the call of duty.

Having owned several pairs of Merrell's before I was disappointed and had to return them after a day. Under the lace loops is a triple thickness seam. This created a nasty pressure point under each loop. Maybe I got a bad pair ?!

I've only worn them twice so far, but they are VERY comfortable. I had the same problem with the laces in that both came undone within the first mile. I haven't .tried them yet in wet conditions, but I want to use them as an approach shoe to climbing crags

Well made with good sensible coloured materials, very comfortable, ready to go straight out of the box.

comfortable shoes but awful laces which wouldn't stay done up. spoilt the package, especially as they weren't cheap. Now rectified with a lace purchase from Go Outdoors.

Got these Merrels for a holiday on east coast of USA in the Autumn. Lots of city walking and they were supremely comfortable with the added security of being waterproof. Expected quality and not disappointed.
