A rugged, fully featured handheld GPS device. The perfect companion for all your outdoor pursuits, including full OS mapping of Great Britain.
The Garmin GPSMAP 64S + GB Discoverer Bundle is designed to operate reliably in the most harsh and challenging environments.
This lightweight, handheld navigator features a 2.6” sunlight-readable screen, a high-sensitivity GPS and GLONASS receiver, with a quad helix antenna for superior reception. Being compact, robust and waterproof, the GPSMAP 64S performs in even the worst conditions, using a barometric altimeter and a 3-axis compass.
The quad helix antenna locates your precise position quickly, maintaining its location even in thick forest and deep valleys, ensuring to help you find your way when you need it the most.
You can distinguish your heading, even when standing still, by utilising the built-in 3-axis tilt-compensated electronic compass. The barometric altimeter tracks changes in pressure to pinpoint your altitude, and you can even use it to plot barometric pressure over time - helping you keep an eye on changing weather conditions.
The colour screen guarantees great readability in any condition, even under intense sunlight. The unit relies on a button based user interface which makes it easy to operate with any kind of gloves, even in a shaky, cold or wet environment.
The dual battery system allows the use of a battery pack for convenient charging in the device, or conventional AA batteries. When fully charged the battery pack will last up to 16 hours, which gives you sufficient power in reserve on a day trip.
Share your waypoints, tracks, routes and geocaches wirelessly with other compatible devices. Your friends can enjoy your favourite hike or cache without waiting for you to plug in to your computer — simply press “send” to transfer your information to another wireless enabled Garmin handheld.

Whats all the fuss about? It's a great bit of kit, 12 October 2016
By Exmoor hiker (Swansea)
I can see a couple of reviews here giving 2 stars to this product. Well I have to disagree.
This unit has saved me from a couple of sticky situations, middle of a forest in the rain, light fading, difficulty getting bearings with map and compass. Yes it has been a great aid.
Yes it's not dead easy to use, you need to spend time to research it and it does do everything. Plots routes on the fly, trackbacks and off course alerts
I use Mapometer online to plot my routes, export as a track and Base camp just to import it. No need to use Base camp for everything, simple!
Yes its not cheap, however when your hiking in the rain, drop it in the mud orienteering, this device can take the knocks. No need to spend hundreds on maps, research allows you to get them cheaper, or just use Birds Eye select at £20 for selective downloads.
If you spend hundreds and it hasn't worked out, then maybe enough research wasn't done. there is years of info and reviews out there so prospective purchasers will know exactly what you are getting to meet your needs.

This is a very good product, and does exactly what you want it to do. Would recommend.
Entering Waypoints, 12 September 2016
By Peregrine (Glasgow)
There is a way you can manually enter a selected position as a waypoint - other than your present position - on the map screen of the Garmin GPSMAP 64S handset with a few key strokes.
First, display the Map screen. Move the cursor/pointer on the map screen to any desired position using the arrow keys, then press ENTER, followed by the MENU key. You will then see the message “Save Waypoint”. Just press ENTER again and the new waypoint will be saved – along with details of the elevation; finally, press ENTER again to acknowledge the “OK” message which will appear.
Using this technique, waypoints will be saved as a number.
You can carry out this procedure until you have entered as many waypoints as you need. Then you can group the waypoints together to compile a route if desired.
Entering Waypoints Quickly on the Garmin GPSMAP 64S, 05 September 2016
By Peregrine (Glasgow)
Hello again, Shindigger E
Don't take the contents of my last post to heart! Nothing personal, “Pal”!!
I've just re-read your post in June 2016, where you said, and I quote you verbatim: “Reading the emanual, watching youtube videos and experimenting with the device, it looks as if the only easily entered waypoint is your current location! I'd assumed that positioning the cursor on the desired position on the map would allow waypoint entry, so just string together the important points and that'd be that (normal procedure for marine GPS).” End of quote.
There is a way you can enter a selected position on the map screen of the 64S handset with a few key strokes after all. If you move the cursor/pointer on the map screen to any desired position using the arrow keys, then press ENTER, followed by the MENU key, you will get the option to “Save Waypoint”; just press ENTER again and the new waypoint will be saved – along with details of the elevation; finally, press ENTER again to acknowledge the “OK” message which will appear.
You can carry out this procedure until you have entered as many waypoints as you need. Then you can group the waypoints together to compile a route. I hope this helps.
Bought this 1 year ago. Not straightforward to use. How patient should I be?, 30 August 2016
By Shindigger E (Penicuik)
I bought this GPS+OS maps bundle in August 2015. After using it hillwalking and being unhappy with the ease of use, despite referring to the online manual, I reviewed it in June 2016. After 3 months more of continued use, I stand by my comments.
So it's a surprise to find a review by Peregrine, advising patience. Patronising? 5 stars for that, Pal. I referred to the difficulty entering waypoints, not creating a route with existing waypoints. Try reading the review again.
Sadly, it's a frustrating piece of kit, which could be so much better for mountain navigation with a bit of thought and field use on Garmin's designers part.
But if you want to go geocaching, geotag your photos and upload Garmin 'adventures', it's the toy for you.
