A simple and comforting mac and cheese recipe, perfect for enjoying by the campfire. With minimal ingredients and a one-pot method, it’s easy to make and sure to satisfy after a long day of outdoor adventures.

Ingredients
  • 200g elbow macaroni (or any pasta you prefer)
  • 150g shredded cheddar cheese
  • 120ml milk
  • 30g butter
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
Equipment
  • Single or Double Burner Stove
  • 1 medium pot or Dutch oven
  • Wooden Spoon/Spatula
  • Knife (optional, if you want to cut up any additional toppings like cooked bacon or herbs)

Method

Boil the Pasta
Bring a pot of water to a boil over the campfire or camping stove. Add a pinch of salt and the elbow macaroni. Cook according to package instructions (usually 8-10 minutes), stirring occasionally. Once cooked, drain the pasta and set aside.

Make the Cheese Sauce
In the same pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, add the milk and bring to a simmer, stirring occasionally. Add the shredded cheese a handful at a time, stirring until it’s fully melted and the sauce is smooth. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder to taste.

Combine the Pasta and Sauce
Add the cooked pasta back into the pot with the cheese sauce. Stir well to coat the pasta with the creamy cheese sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until everything is heated through and well combined.

Serve
Once the mac and cheese is creamy and hot, serve it up in bowls. Optionally, top with a sprinkle of extra cheese or some cooked bacon bits for added flavor.
