Discovering Adventure in Chester

Outdoor adventures are often associated with mountains, forests, and campsites, but adventure can be found anywhere. Adventures in the City demonstrates that bustling urban environments can provide just as many opportunities for exploration, learning, and personal growth.

Chester's rich history, famous landmarks, and vibrant city centre make it the perfect setting for a city wide challenge. Teams will work together to complete a variety of tasks inspired by local culture, community, and heritage. Along the way, participants will strengthen communication skills, improve decision making, and gain confidence as they tackle new experiences.

From navigation exercises and creative missions to teamwork based activities and leadership challenges, every part of the event is designed to encourage curiosity and resilience.

Building Confidence Through Challenge

One of the greatest benefits of Girlguiding events is the opportunity for young people to step outside their comfort zones.

Whether participants are finding their way around an unfamiliar area, taking responsibility within their team, or solving problems under pressure, every challenge helps develop valuable life skills. These experiences encourage independence while creating an enjoyable and supportive environment where everyone can contribute.

Events like Adventures in the City help girls and young women recognise their strengths, develop self belief, and learn how to work positively with others. These are skills that extend far beyond the event itself and can support participants throughout school, future careers, and everyday life.

Following the success of previous partnerships with Girlguiding city-based events in Glasgow, Manchester, and York, GO Outdoors is delighted to continue supporting young adventurers at this year's Chester event.

The GO Outdoors Chester store will welcome participating groups throughout the weekend, providing an exciting and engaging Packing List Challenge that combines outdoor knowledge with practical decision making.

This interactive activity encourages teams to think carefully about what equipment they would need for different adventure situations. Participants may be presented with various scenarios and asked to identify which items are essential, which are useful, and which may not be necessary.

The challenge is designed to be educational, fun, and thought provoking while introducing key outdoor concepts in a relaxed and enjoyable way.

The Packing List Challenge

Every great adventure starts with preparation, and the Packing List Challenge highlights just how important that preparation can be.

Participants will use teamwork and critical thinking to select appropriate camping equipment for a range of real world outdoor situations. By discussing options and making decisions together, groups will gain a better understanding of clothing, footwear, navigation tools, shelter and tents, safety equipment, and other outdoor essentials.

The activity is not about getting every answer correct. Instead, it focuses on learning, collaboration, and understanding why certain items are important in specific situations.

This type of practical challenge helps participants develop confidence in their decision making while introducing skills that may inspire future outdoor adventures.

Why Events Like This Matter

Girlguiding has long recognised the importance of providing opportunities for young people to challenge themselves, meet new friends, and experience adventure in new ways.

Events such as Adventures in the City create safe and supportive environments where participants can learn through experience. By working together to complete tasks and overcome challenges, young people build resilience, communication skills, and leadership qualities.

The combination of exploration, problem solving, and teamwork creates memorable experiences that participants often remember for years to come.

For many, events like this also act as a gateway to further outdoor activities, encouraging greater confidence and participation in adventures both big and small.

Exploring Chester Together

One of the most exciting aspects of the event is the opportunity to experience Chester from a completely different perspective.

Participants will encounter famous locations, discover hidden corners of the city, and engage with activities that encourage observation and curiosity. Every challenge becomes part of a wider journey that combines fun with learning.

The city itself becomes an active part of the experience, providing inspiration for tasks that encourage creativity, leadership, teamwork, and exploration.

A Weekend to Remember

Adventures in the City 2026 is much more than a day out. It is an opportunity for Girlguiding members to challenge themselves, build friendships, and create lasting memories while exploring one of England's most historic cities.

With an exciting programme of activities across Chester and the support of GO Outdoors Chester through the interactive Packing List Challenge, participants can look forward to a weekend packed with adventure, learning, and fun.

As young people gather from across the region this October, Chester will become a place where confidence grows, friendships strengthen, and new adventures begin. GO Outdoors is proud to support the event and looks forward to welcoming participants for what promises to be another fantastic Girlguiding experience.
