A great tent!
I bought this tent to walk the Penine Way with my son and dog. It is considerably more spacious than many of its peers, with plenty of space and height for two and some inside storage. Though lightweight for its size it survived several storms and was entirely waterproof. Well made and easy to put up, it represents very good value.
I bought the OEX Cougar EV 11 specifically for an 800km solo cycle trip down the Loire last summer.
It performed faultlessly. It was easy to put up, had bags of room and managed heavy rain and strong winds with aplomb. I used it with a rectangular lightweight Oxford nylon footprint from Naturehike which provided good protection from stones and pine needles. I'll be using the tent again for this summer's trip along the Garonne and the Mid canals - from the Atlantic to the Med.
There are two observations worth making - remember this is an inner first pitch - so you need to be quick if it is raining when you arrive. Secondly it is easy to catch the mesh inner on the velcro of the door closures. These two materials don't like each other very much!
Overall I'm delighted and would buy again.
Having Mountain/Hill walked for over 17yrs across the UK and used many tents over that time always being the top brands i:e Terra Nova/Hillberg/North Face i was rather cautious about this tent being an unknown.
Chatted to the helpful chap at Go Outdoors Cardiff who kindly put the tent up for me as i needed it for myself the wife and Pooch so needed some decent space but as light as possible as last year used a Terra Nova Quasar which isn't designed for wild camping hence being extremely heavy.
So took the plunge and purchased this tent and after using it for a 3 day wild camping trip across Dartmoor where the first night from 8pm until 5.15am we had 4 seasons within that time and i have to say this tent performed absolutely superb.
The wife actually got fed up of me going on about it but the attention to detail, quality workmanship and materials used quite frankly surprises me they can make it and sell it for this price.
As good as any tent i have used from top brands and would absolutely recommend it, apparently it is Go Outdoors own brand so the chap in the shop told me so well done Go Outdoors superb product.
I used this tent on a 2 week trip to the Azores Islands. We camped on the coast and spent the might up Mount Pico, so it got a good test in the wind a rain a few times. We were staying on the Atlantic coast and first night there was a storm, some of the tent pegs pulled out the ground and the poles were bending with the wind, but the tent kept it's shape and we were still dry. We were the only tent on the site left standing the next morning. We had no trouble with the waterproofing during the trip.
It's a great size, only having one porch means there's more space inside for kit etc. This had the biggest internal floor dimensions I could find for a tent in this weight category. We can fit our double roll mat inside. Also when looking for similar tents, it was the only one which has a ground sheet in the porch which I think is important.
I would give it 5 stars, but there a few niggles. The door/side panel on the outer always seems to be a bit flappy; you can tighten straps on the outer, but I always end up having all of the clips tightened to the maximum and it's still slightly flappy even on totally flat ground. Also it's quite easy to "pull" the material for the inner; after 2 weeks use, there are about 6 places where the threads have pulled together in the mesh.
i have to say when i took the tent out of the bag and within 10 mins it was up and ready to go i was quite impressed with the tent. first night out was -2 outside but i was very comfortable inside. now the second night the heavens opened up and absolutely hammered down most of the night whereupon in the early hours i had small wet patches on the ground sheet and small droplets on my head and sleeping bag,its a pity because its just the size and shape of tent that i wanted,i have had cheaper tents than this that have stood up to the weather thankfully i was only testing the gear out for future wild camping and was close to home would not want to be miles from anywhere wet and cold so a little disappointed
