A well equipped, lightweight road bike at a great price, perfect for anyone after a fast and smooth ride.

"An ultra-budget bike normally means poor tyres, shonky brakes, wonky wheels and way too much weight. Thankfully the Rivelin meets the low-cost challenge head on.

The Rivelin is a good, solid bike at a great price, and has clearly been put together by a knowledgeable team"
Cycling  Plus, January 2016

The Calibre Rivelin Road Bike has been designed for relaxed riding and newcomers to road cycling - the emphasis very much on all-day comfort.

At its core is its compact frame geometry, tweaked for a more upright riding position. Hand-welded with high quality lightweight aluminium tubing, it has subtly shaped seatstays that help dampen bumps and vibrations before they reach the saddle.

It's not just about comfort, however. The lightweight tubing means faster acceleration and quicker climbing. An oversized downtube provides superb frame stiffness for efficient power transfer and a responsive ride. There is even a rear rack mount, making the bike an option for commuting and light touring. It's a great, versatile frame that is the foundation for an excellent all-round road bike.
Complementing the frame is a carbon fibre fork which ensures razor-sharp handling and control, quickly and precisely transmitting every micro-adjustment you make into the bike. It also helps keep you fresh on long rides by soaking up annoying road buzz to combat upper-body fatigue while you hold the handlebars.
Gearing comes courtesy of Shimano's excellent 8-speed Claris system with quick, smooth derailleurs and ergonomic, easy-to-use STI levers. A quality FSA chainset carries power efficiently from the pedals to the drivetrain with compact 50/34 tooth chainrings offering a wide range of easier gears for conquering hilly terrain.

The wheels combine lightweight alloy rims with high quality hubs for efficient high speed performance. A double-wall rim construction is used for extra strength and resilience on rough roads and the semi-aero rim profile cuts through the wind to save you energy and boost your speed. Schwalbe's fast-rolling 23mm Lugano tyres provide excellent grip, comfort and durability for great year-round performance.

calibre Rivelin

Great bike, its my first road bike its good quality everything that anyone would need to get started.
There will be i few things that you will want to change like the pedals, the tyres if you really want but what comes with the bike are fine.
ly a problem but all was sorted within the hour, so i would also say 5* for customer service.
if you can still get your hands on one you will not beat the value for money on this bike.

update after 10 months ownership

Thought i'd come back and add a little bit to my previous review.
The bike has been good. Once adjusted seat handlebar pitch etc. Done a few 55 milers and fine. It handles very well. The wheels have impressed me considering i'm 90 kg and have bashed over some terrible roads they have stayed true.
One more puncture and another slight QC issue - the front Shimano mech seized. Checking after ride in garage and a small pin fell out. Put it back in with punch and all fine. I don't think it had been put in properly in first place. Anyway if it had fallen out on ride it would have been back to store for repair under guarantee. Enjoy your cycling!

Excellent entry level bike

I've had this bike a few months now and found it to be excellent value for money. Before I bought this bike I also looked at the alternative BTwin cycles from Decathlon but found this to be a more cost effective bike.

I changed from hybrid to this bike and expected to struggle a little. However, the build and geometry of the frame and general set up are quite forgiving.

I changed from twist grip gears and had no issues using the Shimano Claris set up at all.

Only change I've made is the pedals- those supplied are non starters really so a good set of clipless is order of the day.

I now find myself riding quicker on the flat and on hills which to some may seem obvious but I am 67 years old and still able to hold my own to a degree.

If you want a reliable, comfortable and relatively cheap entry level bike then look no further

Good basic entry level bike

This is an entry level bike and must be viewed as such. Most retailers have similar offerings but I liked the look and feel of this one.
I've had the bike for 6 months and 1000 + miles.

I sat on it in store and ordered over the web.
It arrived well packaged and after usual minimal assembly only required a little fine tuning to set it up.

It is generally well made in Bangladesh.

Frame: Comfortable and looks purposeful, negligible flexing The welding is fairly neat. The paint is a bit thin with cables already wearing through it a bit where they rub on the headstock.

Wheels are OK but the rear was a tiny bit untrue. Had a puncture in first week due to poor QC - The thin plastic wheel tape did not cover a couple of spokes allowing puncture. They have stood up well to a bit of pothole and third world English road abuse.

Check and UPGRADE rim tape.

Mine came with Continental Ultrasport tyres that are good enough.

Saddle crippled me so UPGRADED saddle to CHARGE SPOON. - Better.

The Shimano Claris works well however I changed the 11/25 cassette to an 11/32 to help ME on the hills. This required a longer chain.

I ordered the largest frame which came with a 110mm Stem which stretched me out too much so replaced with 70mm.

Tektro brakes are brilliant.

Obviously have to buy your own pedals to replace the 'test' items.

All in all i'm happy with the bike. OK I've upgraded and personalised a bit spending about an extra £80 but considering I got it in the XMAS sale for £300 ………Great value.

Great for an entry level Bike

Had this bike a couple of weeks now and all in all I am really pleased with it. You get what you pay for and at the moment I cannot give any negatives. Been out on it quite a few times now and had no issues. The bike handles well although the gear shift is a little clunky it does exactly what you want it too. I also upgraded pedals to Spd l which makes a big difference. If like me you are just getting back into cycling this is an ideal entry level bike.

QC Lacking!

After owning the bike for around a month i can say the bike is decent at it's price point.

However my purchase experience has been on the lackluster, after less than a week of having the bike i had to make a return trip to get spokes on both wheels tightened.

After 2 weeks the cassette lock ring had become so loose it sounded like i was cycling across cobbles!

3 weeks and another return trip for yet another loose spoke!

4 weeks and start getting hand issues, which i look into to find that a potential cause is a stem that is to long! (bike advertised as having a 90mm stem, came with a 110mm stem fitted.) therefore potentially causing to much stretch.
To be told be a member of staff that they often use longer stems to make the frames bigger!! (No the do not, they are called "frame sizes" for a reason)

All in all not happy about the QC and the fobbing off.

Next bike will be from a local bike shop not a 45mile round trip for loads of issues!

Calibre Rivelin delivers good results

I've owned the calibre rivelin for 6 months now. It's been my first road bike, after coming from a mountain bike background. For the money, it comes equipped with decent kit, like the carbon forks and handles well. I have wanted a few more gears when climbing hills over 14 degrees and the 23 mm tyres can result in some harsh jolts when riding over bad roads. That said however, it's still fun to ride and is a good value entry level bike for those new to road cycling or looking for a winter trainer.

Calibre Rivelin. Bellissima !

After many years out of cycling, I decided to start afresh and got this beautiful road bike. I live in Malta where we have lots of steep roads so I replaced my gears with higher ones ( after a crash which damaged them ) and now am so happy. I travelled all around our beautiful island with no problems. Thanks go outdoors for selling such good products at reasonable prices. I will soon be upgrading for a better bike, and will surely purchase from you, but this bike is for life. I just love it. Well done.

Cool cycling

I bought this bike to use on the winter roads. So far it's going really well, shame I can't say the same about the weather, which has been cold. The bike is surviving on very dirty and occasionally icy roads and would be happy to recommend it to others.

Amazing bike for the money

Bought this on a sale day but would happily have paid full price. This is a cracking bike, comfortable, well put together and easy to ride. I didn't want to spend a fortune on my first road bike having been using a hybrid previously and this was the ideal step up. Easy gear change, excellent brakes, solid but lightweight rims, quick release wheels, light frame and easy to fit optional extras such as mud guards and bottle cages should you need or want to. Plus the staff in Plymouth are great and really know their bikes so can give you pointers all the way.

Good all round bike at a very good price

This is my second Calibre bike (I bought the Calibre 2.2 Mountain bike 2yrs ago), and like my other bike it has excellent parts on it for the price. I bought this bike to commute, but I’ve found myself doing a bit more heavy duty road cycling at weekend and on my days off. Compared to my other bike, it’s a bit harsh going over bumps, potholes and rough surfaces, but, obviously, speed and ease are compensation enough. The bike is light and can easily be hauled up onto curbs and over objects when using the roads become dangerous or impassable (floods & traffic jams etc), and in terms of security I can easily take off the wheel and my helmet and lock them together with a single lock. Also, the bike is easily stored, and given the minimal fittings & fixtures it’s relatively low maintenance. So far, the bike has proved solid, slips through gears easily and quickly, and is quite slick. As a bonus, I like the colour scheme. All in all, a bike with quality parts that looks good at a relatively low price. Top marks all round.

Very good for your money

I bought mainly for riding to work and a wet weather bike to add to my ever growing bike collation. If you are thinking to buy or wan't some fun and want to experience a road bike for the summer, Then this is the bike for you... The Claris gears are the lowest group set Shimano do . so it is a little bit clunky . the front forks will damp out bumpy roads and pot holes saddle is very good . breaks work well but i have up graded the pads and fixed a water bottle to the frame . the bike is a little bit on the heavy side so if you find a hill over 14% you might find it a challenge. I would of given the bike 5* only because the gears are the lowest schimano lowest branded group set and a little bit heavy . But the bike is good fun PS PLEASE GET A PROPER BIKE FIT FOR THE BIKE .

New to road cycling

As a newby to road riding I had a limited budget but after a bit of shopping around and great service from Taunton GO picked this Rivelin. great acceleration, great speed and comfy. I've only covered about 150 miles in the 2 weeks that I've had it but I'm hooked. The gears are smooth, the brakes are great, it just makes me go further and further. Thanks GO, great bike.

starting again

Wanted to start cycling again and found this to be a excellent choice. Quality components where it matters and quite light weight, a little niggle with some chain rub in the lower gears was easily sorted on the 6 week check in store. Might want to change the saddle, though that's a personal choice.

Rivelin Bike

I ordered mine online in December 2015 and it arrived promptly. After setting up and little bit of fettling, as the head set hadn't been fitted correctly, I have enjoyed a number of trouble free miles.
For the money, the bike is excellent for the new / casual rider.

I have owned this bike 52cm bike for about 5 months. I bought it as a touring bike, not a racer. Often I ride with small groups or with a mate 30 - 40 miles. this has proved to be brilliant. The gearing is just right and as already being said, you can get up most hills. I rode York to Bradford and back with rack and panniers on. It is quite a hilly ride but the bike was perfect. I wasn’t shattered after the ride either. I have put 1" tyres on and changed the handlebar stem. Now I love it.
The customer service I received from York branch was 1st class.

great value for money

I cycle approx 60-100 miles per week, mostly on Sunday club runs. My old Winter bike finally gave up the ghost and unwilling to take out my Summer bike i had to look for a budget winter bike. I have ridden the Rivelin twice so far and am really impressed. One ride was a 50 mile club run and it handled really well. It's not the lightest bike and the wheels don't roll as well as more expensive models and I will probably replace them soon. However for the money this is a really good bike. The gearing will get a fit cyclist up most hills. Claris gearing is a bit clunky, but shifts up and down the gears well enough. The carbon fork helps to give a smooth ride and after a 50 mile trip I don't feel any more fatigued then I would on my more expensive bike. I would highly recommend this bike to someone looking for a first road bike or someone looking for a winter/second bike.

Calibre rivelin road bike

The Calibre rivelin road bike is my first road bike, for someone that is new to the activitie it is a really good starter bike. I feel I would recommend anyone that is looking to spend around £350 on a bike get this one. I've went out for my first ride on it and it was so smooth, the bike goes through every gear so smoothly.
