Key features
The original Silva Field Compass has base plate map-measuring in mm and scales of 1:50,000 and 1:25,000 compatible with most maps. It has a DryFlex™ rubber bezel for improved comfort and grip, and a detachable safety-release lanyard.
Being so light and compact means the Field Compass is an excellent choice for keeping in your pack in case you need a quick bearings check, so is ideal for weekend walks or for use on Duke of Edinburgh expeditions.
For route planning or more serious navigation use, consider getting a longer-baseplate model.

Completely Garbage
We bought 10 of these Silva Field compasses a while ago for our Scouts, which are now out of warranty. 9 out of the 10 compass capsules now leak with air bubbles in them affecting the compass needle and use. We've just had to scrap them and whilst the service by Go Outdoor was great, Silva can not support us to replace the capsules. Last time we buy Silva for compasses!
