A youth climbing competition is still open for entries until Thursday this week, the British Mountaineering Club (BMC) has said.

The BMC Open Youth Event will take place at Edinburgh International Climbing Arena in Ratho next Saturday, July 24th, with Thursday 22nd the final day for entries.

Those coming in their climbing gear and taking on the various challenges have been arranged into four groups.

Juniors are those born in 1991 or 1992, with Group's A, B and C devised according to which years climbers were born in during the 1993-98 period.

Only British passport holders are automatically eligible to take part, although others can be allowed in at the BMC's discretion.

Beginners who want to have some instruction in the sport can do so in the North York Moors on July 27th.

The national park authority is running courses on rock climbing at Scugdale near Swainby, with this running from 13:30 BST to 17:00 BST.
