Outdoors enthusiasts will be given a better idea of what walking equipment they will need to take with them to the Yorkshire Dales thanks to an improved weather forecasting service.

The Mountain Weather Information Service has expanded its area of coverage to include the Yorkshire Dales in addition to the Peak District.

In addition, the frequency of the forecasts has been increased, with reports available every day as opposed to just the weekend as was the case previously.

The extension of the coverage may help outdoors enthusiasts decide which walking equipment and camping gear they need for the weather conditions.

Tom Tobler, from Meteogroup, the weather division of the Press Association, stated that the UK will be blighted by bad weather for the rest of the week, meaning waterproof walking equipment may be needed.

"The East Midlands will see a large area of thunderstorms with fairly frequent lightning. This is expected to move northwards and become more widespread across the eastern and northern England," he said.
