People who love to go walking, head for the hills with their climbing rope or ride around the countryside on mountain bikes may like to stay in youth hostels and those who do will soon be enjoying the benefits of new investment in their accommodation.

The Youth Hostels Association (YHA) has secured a new £13 million funding facility with the Co-operative Bank to upgrade its 200 hostels across England and Wales, as well as its bunkhouses and camping barns.

Bank spokesperson Barbara Hodgson said: "The plan that YHA has in place will undoubtedly ensure that individuals and groups will have access to high quality, affordable accommodation options across England and Wales."

One of the priorities will be to carry out work on the YHA's new Losehill Hall hostel at Castleton in the Peak District, which it has bought from the national park authority.

The current Castleton YHA is set to close at the end of next month, with the mansion and its 27-acre grounds coming into use for YHA staff and members from March 1st.ADNFCR-2803-ID-801267690-ADNFCR
