A new BBC comedy will focus on the outdoors as it follows the fortunes of a group of ramblers.

Gavin and Stacey star Ruth Jones will feature in The Great Outdoors, a three-part comedy series to be shown on BBC Four as part of its Outdoor season.

Fellow comedy actor Mark Heap will also be in the show, in which the pair battle for the role of leader of a group of walkers.

While Ruth Jones and her friends pull on their walking boots, the show will be shot using a handheld camera to give viewers an authentic impression of walking with the group, the BBC stated.

Ms Jones hails from the south Wales town of Porthcawl, not far from the Brecon Beacons.

Visitors to the area - who may wish to pick up gear from the Go Outdoors store in Cardiff - are close to the Brecon Beacons National Park, which includes mountains like Pen-Y- Fan, Waun Fach and Black Mountain.

According to the park authority's own figures, 3.8 million people a year visit the Beacons.
