Rock band U2 has been invited to open the 2011 Glastonbury Festival.

The group was set to be a headline act in this year's event but had to pull out after frontman Bono suffered a back injury that required urgent surgery.

However, organiser Michael Eavis has said the band has been invited back for next year, as well as revealing that he has already picked two of the headline acts for 2011 - but refused to disclose who.

Although the event does not take place until June 22nd-26th, it is already possible to book tickets and those who are going may wish to invest in some camping furniture to ensure they have a comfortable stay in between seeing U2 and the other bands playing.

Now back on tour, U2s new song 'Glastonbury' was given its first airing as the group played in Turin at the weekend, a tune that may now be set to finally get sung in the famous Somerset venue a year later than planned.
