Waterproofs, hiking boots, tents and rucksacks will be much in evidence on Dartmoor this weekend (May 14th to 15th) as the annual Ten Tors Challenge takes place.

Teams of youngsters will be setting off across the national park in a navigational challenge that may test some to the limit on the 55-mile route.

As well as walking a long distance, the teams must each carry all their equipment and food with them.

There will be over 2,000 participants this year, the 50th since the event became an open one in 1961.

Participants will need a range of outdoor clothing, as history has shown many variations in weather conditions.

In 1998, temperatures were in the 80s throughout, whereas in 1996 the moor was hit by a barrage of sleet and snow.

The Met office forecast for this weekend is for sunny weather with some cloud until Sunday afternoon, when there will be some rain.
