The Snowdon 500 Challenge - a charity event raising funds for prostate cancer research - takes place this coming weekend (May 22nd and 23rd).

Participants in the vent can choose to climb the 3,560 ft mountain on either of the two dates, with the aim being to raise funds for the Prostate Cancer Research Centre.

Those donning their walking boots will be taken by bus from a meeting point in Llanberis to Pen-Y-Pas, from where the ascent will begin..

Climbers can choose an ascent via either the Pyg Track or the Miners' Path, before coming back down the other side of the mountain on the Llanberis Path.

For those keen to climb the mountain, a trekking pole may also come in useful and there are many possible routes up.

These include the Snowdon Ranger Path, the Watkin Path and the Crib Goch route, the last of which involves a scramble along the famous knife-edge ridge and is only for those who can handle severe exposure.
