Kettering Council is encouraging locals to don their cycling gear and take part in a charity bike ride which will follow the route of the Halfords Tour Series.

The event is in aid of the Prostate Cancer Charity and is open to participants of all ages, the Northamptonshire Evening Telegraph reports.

Chief executive of NHS Northamptonshire John Parkes stated that the ride is a good opportunity for locals to enjoy some exercise while raising money for a worthy cause.

"Whether you are racing against the clock or just doing some gentle exercise, you'll be able to say you have completed the tour series circuit," he told the newspaper.

Participants will have the chance to complete up to three laps of the course before professionals including Olympians Chris Newton and Rob Hayles tackle the route at 19:00 GMT.

BBC commentator Clare Balding is to don her cycling gear and take to two wheels this summer as part of the broadcaster's outdoor season.

She will host a series called Britain by Bike, in which she seeks to rediscover the world of guidebook writer Harold Briercliffe.
