Many people who like to go walking in the Peak District will often be dispappointed to see litter left out on the hills, but the national park is the target of a forthcoming clean-up.

Respect the Mountains is an international envitronmental and mountain awareness charity that carries out clean-ups in mountain areas in several countries - with Bamford in the High Peak set to get the treatment on August 5th.

As well as carrying out clean-ups, it aims to encourage recycling and for visitors to the mountains to leave no trace behind of their visit.

Other forthcoming clean-ups will be taking place in mountain areas of Austria, Germany and France.

Respect the Mountains is not the only charity helping walkers, mountain bikers and climbers to enjoy a litter-free environment.

The John Muir Trust also carries out such clean-ups, with one of these taking place last month on the Hebridean island of West Harris.ADNFCR-2803-ID-801408343-ADNFCR
