While the cost of living may be rising for many everyday goods, outdoor clothing and equipment is getting cheaper, a study has found.

The latest edition of Trail Magazine has revealed the cost of various items - including tents, walking boots, outdoor jackets and sleeping bags - costs less in real terms than it did a decade ago.

Its study found the biggest improvement was in the cost of the best outdoor jacket from Berghaus, which costs less in headline price terms and less than half its 2001 cost in real terms when inflation is taken into account.

Go Outdoors stores sell a range of Berghaus jackets and other items from the manufacturer.

The magazine also noted the lower cost comes alongside the improvement in the quality of outdoor gear due to technological advances.

Vango tents were also identified as being cheaper by the study and these are also available from Go Outdoors.

Those who may be keen on buying a new tent could include music fans heading to Glastonbury this summer, where the last week has brought news that Coldplay and Beyonce will be among the headline acts.
