Those keen to go walking in the Peak District may enjoy a trek guided by park rangers along the old railway line near Bakewell next month.

Held on June 11th, the event will start at Bakewell's former station at 10:45 BST? and end at 17:30, with eight miles of walking, mostly along the old line and with some sections passing through tunnels.

It promises to involve plenty of chances to see local wildlife, although some putting on their hiking boots as instructed in the walk guide may also enjoy the heritage and history of the location.

Similar thoughts may be prominent in the minds of those who like to get on mountain bikes and ride on the Monsall Trail in the national park.

The Pedal Peak District project's work to re-open former tunnels on the trail that had been sealed off after trains stopped running in 1968 was completed last week, meaning riders can now speed through them in a way nobody and nothing has been able to do for decades.
