Rock band Muse will be playing at this year's Glastonbury Festival, it has been revealed.

The Devon-based group will be appearing at the event in neighbouring Somerset, adding their name to a line-up that includes U2, Dizzee Rascal and Stevie Wonder.

Singer Matt Bellamy has previously praised the atmosphere at Glastonbury after the band appeared there in 2004, speaking of the combination of music and being close to nature.

He told the BBC: "I think everyone connects with something which has been missing from city life."

Those staying in festival tents can enjoy not just the music and rural vibe, but also carry on waving flags during performances.

Glastonbury organisers had run a poll on the issue of whether people should be allowed to bring the items along to gigs at the venue, with the result last week showing 55 per cent in favour of allowing this to continue.

The online poll attracted votes from 71 different countries.
