The new year has brought the opening of the website for entries to the TransWales mountain bike race.

Registration is now possible online or by post for the event, which takes place between August 14th and 21st.

A total of 300 places are available to those wishing to compete in a wide variety of races and classes, these being listed as open, mixed, vets, open solo and solo vets and each of them applying to riders of both men's bikes and women's bikes.

Packages for entrants - which include extras such as accommodation - vary from £375 to £575.

In addition to booking a place, riders may wish to stock up on some new cycling gear.

The size of the event is larger than that of 2009, the report on which noted that there were 180 riders setting out at the start in Builth Wells.

After traversing the Welsh countryside, the event finished in the same town.
