More ski runs open in Scotland

As much of Britain slows down in the snow, the same weather is offering more chances for skiers to hurtle down the slopes at great speed.

The Nevis range has now started to open its ski lifts as conditions make winter sports possible, with the gondola cable car open and the Alpha Button lift expected to be running today.

Its latest statement said: "We expect to have snowsports from some point on Monday onwards."

Another resort to open up is the Lecht, with the Robin lift operating and the Robin and Magic Carpet runs operational.

Cairngorm Mountain, which resumed wintersports last week, described conditions on the M1, White Lady and Cas runs as "excellent".

Those keen to don some ski boots and ski goggles before hitting the slopes may be encouraged by the news and seek to enjoy the sport over Christmas.

More snow may also lead to Glenshee and Glencoe opening and according to the Met Office, the winter weather of the past few days is here to stay, with more snow due over the Scottish mountains.
