Those looking for some inspiration to get out the
climbing rope and head for the crags may find it at the Kendal Mountain
Festival, starting tomorrow (November 18th).
Over the course of four days there will be a range of films, books and talks on mountains with a declared aim of "inspiring audiences about the world of mountains and wilderness and celebrating the spirit of exploration and adventure".
Speakers include Cameron McNeish and Richard Else, who will talk about the climb by Dave MacLeod and Tim Emmett on the Hebridean cliff of Sron Ulladale earlier this year, which was broadcast live by the BBC.
Themes will include climbing and other mountain activities in both Britain and the rest of the world, all of which may help inspire people to visit the nearby Lake District climbing sites.
Popular challenges in the national park include Napes Needle on Great Gable and Pillar Rock.
