A guided walk on Boxing Day will be among the attractions for those in the Coniston area of the Lake District around Christmas time, allowing people to burn off their Christmas dinner and swap their new jumpers for thermal clothes and
waterproofs.
At 10:30 GMT walkers will set out on a six-mile circular hike from Coniston Tourist Information Centre, which takes in Yewdale, Boon Crag and Tarn Hows.
The village is also offering some fun on ice, with open air skating by the Coniston Boating Centre on the lake's shore from 22 December to January 13th (apart from Christmas Day).
Ice may be present in many other places for those venturing onto the higher fells of the area, so items like
crampons may be particularly useful.
The highest mountain in the area is the Old Man of Coniston at 2,635 ft, while other summits over 2,000 ft include Dow Crag and Wetherlam.
