The sport of fishing appears to be more popular than Katie Price, according to new figures.

Viewing statistics for last week's TV showed that the former glamour model's reality TV show What Katy did Next had less viewers than Robson Green's Extreme Fishing.

While Peter Andre's ex was watched by 1.3 million viewers on ITV2, over on Channel 5 Robson Green reeled in 1.6 million fans.

Those keener on fishing rods than celebrities and more interested in fishing bait than Peter and Katie baiting each other may wish to stock up on supplies at their nearest Go Outdoors store before heading for the water.

With the warmer weather approaching and less ice around, now may be a good time to swap the TV for the rod and reel, with the salmon fishing season now underway.

Earlier this month, comedian Billy Connolly opened the salmon fishing season on the river Dee, explaining his love of the sport by saying: "Fishing takes the world away. You can forget all about the world and its daft little problems."

Meanwhile, England cricket legend Sir Ian Botham launched the season on the river Teith.
