People who like to go walking in the Peak District may enjoy a guided trek around part of the High Peak on March 18th.

Led by national park rangers, the Chunal Wander starts at Glossop Railway Station at 10:30 GMT and covers ten miles, with plenty of climbing and rugged ground as the six-hour adventure climbs to Higher Shelf Stones and the Snake.

Participants are asked to make sure they bring walking boots, waterproofs and other "weather-appropriate clothing", plus a packed lunch.

This area of moorland lies between the two highest summits of the Peak District, Kinder Scout (2,088 ft) and Bleaklow (2,077 ft) and is crossed both by the Snake Pass and the Pennine Way.

Higher Shelf Stones is itself 2,021 ft above sea level, with this point being marked by a trig point.

This spot can also be reached from Glossop by taking the Doctor's Gate Path up to join the Pennine Way near to the point where it crosses the Snake Pass.ADNFCR-2803-ID-801301460-ADNFCR
