Know Before You GO Video Team Test The Limits of Layering In the Black Mountains!

The GO Outdoors Expert Advice video team will go to almost any lengths to make a point on just how good the layering systems is; even if that means persuading buschcraft expert and wildlife tracker Jonathon Simons to wear just a baselayer in very low temperatures earlier this week.

Whilst filming the second series of Know Before You GO videos on the layering system on Table Mountain in the Black Mountains, Simons wore the said baselayer for over an hour and a half  in the minus degree temperatures as he demonstrated an effective layering system.

Because heat was sparse as the team made their ascent, filming had to be spot on, and fortunately for Simons as his hands turned purple by the time strong wind and rain hit, waterproofs were on hand and they were able to literally ‘wrap up’ and film advice on the outer layers, which can be seen in the pictures.

Charles Jefferson, GO Outdoors’ Know Before You Go training co-ordinator said “ It was a fantastic day out and we can’t wait for the end result. We hope that the videos really demonstrate how bringing a few garments with you into the hills can keep you comfortable no matter what the weather.

The ‘Know Before You GO’ expert advice videos link in with the online Expert advice guides, and provide expert advice on everything from how to layer, how waterproofs are made and plenty more- all in an  accessible, easy to understand format.

The videos will soon be available to view online, and you can read all our Expert Advice Guides at
