Those who fancy marking the longest day of the year in style may choose to
go walking in the Lake District.
On June 21st a ranger-led trek will begin in Glenridding at 10:00 BST with a bus up to the waterfall of Aira Force, followed by a climb to Glencoyne, offering spectacular views of Ullswater.
Covering 7.1 miles in six hours, it is a walk for which "appropriate footwear" is needed and this instruction from the park rangers may be fulfilled by the use of good
walking boots.
For some, a visit to the Glenridding area may offer an even more adventurous way to spend the day, by climbing to the 3,117 ft summit of Helvellyn and watching the sunset shortly before 22:00 from the top.
Warm outdoor jackets may be useful for those spending the night on its summit, although they will be able to descend again within a few hours as the light begins to return.
