This is the latest in a series of Osprey bags I have purchased, and the quality and practicality is superb. I wanted a bag to use as carry-on for air travel and as my only luggage, regardless of the type or length of a trip. If you have enough for a week, you have enough for a year - with topping up essentials along the way. And this bag meets the criteria.

Ideal for travelling
I have been round India and Asia using a 35l rucksack but it is pretty hard to get everything in and hard to access everything. This 40l bag is I suspect a little larger than 40l and I can pack more stuff in.
The standout features are the laptop sleeve, which holds my 12" laptop easily, even my old heavy 13" one fits in fine. The double zip that allows the whole top of the bag to flip open like a suitcase. The shoulder strap and hidden rucksack straps and the various pockets and sections for storage. I was able to pack everything I needed for a 2 month trip to Asia. Including laptop, sandals and flip flops into the bag. I find if fully packed it can go over the weight limit for some airlines and is marginal on the size too. I never had a problem with size but one airlines limit, 6 or 7kg I think, meant I had to get rid of a few items. The bag is very well made, the main zips are strong, the materials feel strong.
Its lockable too, with one padlock through the 2 sections, or you can lock either. I found that was handy as I locked my cash and laptop in one and left the one with my clothes open.
I find the shoulder strap is ok for 90% of the time, eg getting to airports, taxis, trains etc. Then the rucksack option can be used for long walks. I walked a couple of miles to a lake in Germany as I had time to kill before a flight and I could do it with this bag.
I cant really think of any downsides.
So overall I would recommend it.

Excellent travel bag
Very well built bag with good straps and support. Only downside is that the laptop compartment is not against your back so can pull away a bit.

Survived an earthquake
My son just took this for a 5 week trek the length & breadth of Japan. He needed it to be flight carry on size as there are 2 flights involved. This backpack was perfect. Hey, it survived an earthquake in Osaka this morning :)

Top notch for a short trip
I bought this because it was suitable to hand luggage on the plane, it did me very proud over our two week backpacking trip to Italy and France - you can fit a surprising amount of stuff in it. I love the fact the front compartment has a few different separation sections making it perfect for housing travel documents in a travel bag. The waste and chest strap make it fit really comfortably as well as the shoulder adjusters it was actually really comfortable to wear and easy to move about on the plane with the flap to contain the shoulder straps and carrying as a shoulder bag.
A very easy 5 stars for this bag

excellent for hand luggage and short trip
Just returned from five a five day trip to Iceland, was hand luggage only. Combined with the use of hand roll vaccum bags and compression straps that are fitted, With what clothes i already had on, I was able to fit a bridge camera in a case, spare batteries and charger, tripod, waterproofs, two pairs of craghoppers winterlined trousers, thermals, five t-shirts, micro-fleece, hats, snood, gloves, five pairs of merino socks, underwear, wash kit. large micro-towel.
This bag was perfect, strudy, strong, comfortable, ideal zip out rucksack straps - With the weather at about zero degrees and snow everyday combined with a cover was faultless
This is a bargain piece of luggage and highly recommended - unless you are fashion/colour conscious why pay more for the black version when the blue one is half the price for exactly the same product!!!
All this content and still handsize luggage accepted - only used with WOW airlines so far though but dimension are same as easyjet

Excellent for cabin only UK baggage
I bought an Osprey Farpoint after having an unpleasant experience with Ryan air and a costly £150 on a cheap flight to have bags in the hold. After a lot of research I bought one these and it has it is everything it says - robust, the right size to fit in the cabin and take all your stuff for 2 weeks if you ruthless. After testing the first one we bought another for my wife. Highly recommended and the construction is very robust.
