Take your actual body measurements as they are more accurate than measuring over your clothes or shoes.
Feet: Use a ruler or tape measure to measure your foot (from the heel to the tip of your longest toe) Be sure to measure both feet. Many people have feet of different sizes. Fit to the larger of the two.
Remember, feet can expand over a quarter size during a full day's walk so ensure you get the right fit.
I needed a pair of inexpensive walking boots for light trekking, using around the garden and so forth.
I have some arthritis in one foot so getting a pair of any shoes/boots to fit is occasionally a challenge.
With the help of the experienced staff at my local store I chose these Merrell boots. With no real break in period I wore them constantly in the Lake District walking several miles a day for week. Brilliantly comfortable, easy and straightforward lacing and fitting.
No idea about waterproofing yet but have treated them with Nikwax - they’re fabric and we know what that means.
Am buying a second pair.
Seem good enough at mom. Haven't worn them much and only in dry conditions so far. Time will tell I suppose.
I thought these boots were brilliant when I first started wearing them. However, now that it has got a lot wetter outside they are in no way waterproof and both boots leak in the toe area. They do not perform as sold
I was advised to look at walking shoes as I suffer with plantar filicitis , ( achy feet ) after looking at other brands the shop assistant advised these as they had good midsole support, back in work and they are really comfortable , great grip, and as i’m In them 11 hrs a day my feet don’t sweat or get tired at all,
Water resistant and easy to lace , very good all rounder boot
These lightweight boots are so flexible as to be wearable immediately and walked in without discomfort.
Lightweight boots, good in dry conditions. However wore them for the first time in the wet and both leaked in the toe area and were sodden wet by the end of a 3 mile walk. Absolute rubbish for a boot that is sold as waterproof. Taking them back to the store tomorrow
There seems to be a common theme here: the first time I wore my pair of these is wet conditions both boots leaked alongside the ball of the foot. After a day in very wet grass, feet completely soaked = failed product. a shame as they are very comfortable .
This was my second pair from merrell, unfortunately unlike my first pair, these weren't upto scratch. The left foot leaked after walking through wet grass, so I took them back and chose an alternative
I bought a pair of these boots for summer walking and did a straight out of the box, dry, 15 mile walk in them with no problems or blisters. I find them very comfortable. They are much lighter and cooler for summer walking than my Scarpa Rangers but are no where near as waterproof. After a 45 minute walk through wet grass the tops of my socks - beneath the mesh sections were starting to get damp and suspect that on a longer walk in similar conditions I'd have wet feet.
I've cleaned and re-proofed them so we'll see how they perform in future.
In conclusion I would recommend these boots as being very comfortable out of the box, lightweight and suitable for use in dry conditions.
This is my third pair of Merrell boots. None have needed to be 'broken in' before using them on walks of 10k or more. The first pair are near the end of their life, but they have been to Australia, Scotland and the deserts of the UAE. They are good for wearing on long-distance flights, because they can be worn loosely, allowing blood to circulate! I've had no trouble with leaks during wet periods, but wouldn't want to try any ankle-deep water!
Bought these a few weeks ago - already owned a pair of fully vented ones, but wanted these as my waterproof, summer walking boot. Fit was very good, as expected - grip & support very good also - unfortunately at the first sign of water they've leaked. Really not impressed, left foot completely dry, as expected, right foot completely sodden.
Really comfortable but not waterproof and should be sold as such.
