Berghaus' classic longer-length waterproof walking jacket, now with refined touches and details.

GORE-TEX® Technologies A longer cut version of the classic Berghaus Cornice II, the Berghaus Long Cornice II has been designed to keep hill walkers dry and comfortable even on the wettest days.

Made using 2-layer GORE-TEX fabric, it's totally waterproof and windproof and highly breathable, and its longer length (when compared to most GORE-TEX garments) keeps you covered and walking for longer.

Its full-length InterActive zip means that if the temperatures drop, you can securely attach a compatible Berghaus fleece inside (such as the Berghaus Prism Men's Fleece Jacket ) to give you a layer of much-needed insulation without compromising on comfort or breathability.

The hood is fully adjustable, and can be rolled and stashed away into the collar when you don't need it. A drawcord at the waist lets you cinch the jacket in to cut down on bulk, and the dual drawcord hem means you can minimise drafts.

Its three generously sized pockets include a zipped OS map pocket, for easy access when you're navigating your trail.
  • Double storm flap over front zip
  • Elasticated cuffs with cuff tabs
  • Warm, soft lined collar
  • Handwarmer pockets

Nice jacket let down by poor materials

Pros; The length is perfect and the cut is good. The poppered zip storm flap works well, hood is useful.
Cons; Lining is horrible, Zips are poor quality and the polyester shell leaks after 2 years.

bergaus cornice jacket

Fits nicely but hasn't been tested in hard rain but Gortex should withstand it.
Unsure if the zip will undo from the lowest securing position as it can be unzipped from this position by pulling the zip upwards.
Looks nice.

Berghaus Long Cornice II Men's GORE-TEX® Jacket

Great in wind and rain - stay dry, stay warm it does all that it's asked to do and lightweight with it. For someone who is over 6'2" the extra length is terrific

This garment needs some serious updating

1. Still no pit zips fitted.
2. The neck length of the hood needs extending to allow comfortable use when not layered up.
3. The peak could be longer so providing better protection when wearing a peaked hat
4. Sleeve cuffs needs to be wider to cover glove wrists on stormy and cold days.

Little low cost things that change an adequate garment into a stunning garment

Excellent

This was a replacement for a previous Berghaus Long jacket which was wearing out after many year's use. It has proved it's worth already in the heavy rain and strong winds we've had recently, keeping both out.

First rate coat.

For over a year now my better half has been trying to get me out of my old Long Cornice and into a new jacket. I had grown into my old jacket over several years and was reluctant to be parted from it. However, we eventually found a new one in Go Outdoors, Inverness and like a hermit crab, was then happy to be shoehorned out of my old jacket and into the new one. I love the dark green colour and I am no longer being berated for looking shabby in public :) I wholeheartedly recommend this jacket to anyone who wants lots of space in the side pockets and a jacket that should last many years with everyday use.

Berghaus

This is my second Berghaus coat, the first gave very good service, so had no hesitation in buying another one.

Berghaus CORNICE long

I have had my coat for seven years and whilst it is still waterproof ,it has faded badly and looks quite shabby . I contacted BERGHAUS and the reply was .it was seven years old and they will fade with time , it has not faded all over only on the shoulders . so its ok for gardening but I wouldn't be seen out in it in public .That was not the reply I was expecting .VERY DISAPOINTED .djb

Best Jacket Ever Owned

Had this jacket for about 5 years its been put through its paces. Seriously used walking parts of Hadrians wall, this included 4 seasons in one day. Rain, sleet, sun, wind and lightning storms. The waterproof and breathability on this jacket is second to none. The price tag always puts people off but if your going to own one brilliant jacket make it this one. I wear it still and its in amazing nick. You seriously can't go wrong with this product and i for one love Gore-Tex. Purchase one and you will never look back.

7 months to failure

Got this on 3rd December 2014 and exttatic about it! Worn it about a dozen times, always hung up on hanger to dry. Went out in it evening 24th July in heavy rain and within 30 minutes both lower arms were soaked. Now totaly pee'd off

How to guild the lilly

Further to my January 2015 review I have discovered an overwhelming need for this coat to be fitted with Pit Zips. Still 5* without them but 6* with!

The Dogs Whatsits

This is my second LONG Cornice jacket and the improvements over the Mk 1 version are great. My favourites are The neck length is increased so that the hood is no longer tight against my head when wearing a hat under it and the cuffs are wider so allowing gloves the be more easily tucked in, especially the second one when the other hand is gloved and struggling to perform this task. A great benefit of the longer length is that i can wear and vent my Deluge trousers with this coat without any rain getting in as the top zipped and vented part is snug beneath the coat. Only time will tell is this coat is as durable as its price tag suggests. Seriously consider going up a size to allow for winter jumpers and fleeces to be worn beneath it and for the collar to fasten. A great coat albeit one that lacks variety on the colour front. . Go for it because it's a great garment and you have the backing of the Goretex guarantee which is bomb proof!

Excellent jacket

I bought this jacket because I wanted a longer jacket for everyday wear when walking to and from work. As winter is not quite upon us it hasn't been used in anger. I have worn it on a couple of rainy days and it just seems to shrug it off with rain just beading and running off. The coat is really comfortable to wear the hood has an adjuster at the rear and a really good peak which keeps rain off face. I have also purchased the same brand fleece which zip into it so it should cope well with anything the British winter can throw at it. The coat looks like it is well made and good quality I am sure it will stand the test of time.

Fantastic Jacket

This jacket is fully waterproof with heavy wind driven rain beading and running off the surfaces even in extreme windy conditions. I wanted a longer length jacket because my hip belt on my rucksack kept lifting up my other jacket exposing the bottom of my back when going uphill on fells. The map pocket is accessed by opening the front flap press studs and then unzipping it so you can gain access without unzipping the jacket and letting in the weather a very good design. Only downside is the front pockets are covered by the hip belt of my ruck sack making it harder to get into them or having to undo hip belt but i can live with that for the performance in bad weather. Also vents exceptionally well with my layers being less wet/damp than previous jackets.

Long Cornice 2

This is my raincoat of choice for everyday British weather. Have been using it and its forebears for the past 30+ years. I am now on my third coat, which I have had for at least 3 or 4 years.
I outgrew my 30+ year old original, and its ~25 year old replacement. But a couple of years ago the original had its seam tape stuck back on, and was passed onto a friend whose size it is, and she regularly uses it for rambling.

Regarding the modern long Cornice compared wiith its forebears, the main improvement has been to the hood, which nowadays folds out from the collar, and has a peak to keep the rain off the face.
The main job over the years has been to reproof it with Nikwax products every couple of years or so.
While it is true that to remain completely dry for hours in the rain, one needs leggings or overtrousers, for shopping and generally getting around town and for using public transport in the rain the coat suffices.
The length is practical, especially for those of us with longer bodies in relation to our other dimensions. And a longer coat gives more protection against the cold and wind as well as rain. Personally, find them practical for cycling as well as hill walking.

Just wished they did this coat in a range of cheerful colours. - At least the only colour currently available is not black.
