A comfortable home from home on the campsite.

The Coleman Oak Canyon 6 is a very spacious and comfortable family tent with an innovative hybrid pole design that keeps its weight and pack size small while making the tent strong, sturdy and reliable.

With two doors and several large PVC windows with cover, the Oak Canyon 6’s extra large living area is an ideal place for the whole family to relax. The peaked porch shelters the entrance and creates a great covered area for your muddy boots and gear.

The bedrooms have been designed for your total comfort, using Coleman's revolutionary BlackOut Bedroom technology which blocks out 99% of light so you get a longer sleep (no more unwanted early morning wake-ups due to bright dawn light!). Their 'XXL' design is more spacious than the average tent bedroom, comfortably accommodating larger double air beds.

Its easy-to-pitch tunnel construction uses both steel and fibreglass poles for a good balance of strength and weight, the high-performance flysheet offers excellent wet weather protection and the robust, integrated PE groundsheet ensures a dry and bug-free interior. The flysheet is also treated with Coleman’s UVGuard™ providing SPF 50 protection from the sun’s rays.

All fabrics are fire retardant and for extra security, and the zipper stoppers on the tent doors ensure that zips are always within easy reach in the event of an emergency, even for children.

  • BlackOut Bedroom® keeps your bedroom up to 5°C cooler during the day and up to 1°C warmer during the night
  • UV Guard™ Sun Protection treatment on flysheet provides SPF50 rated protection against the sun’s ultraviolet rays

Give yourself an even more comfortable camping experience with the Oak Canyon 6 optional extras: fit the Oak Canyon Front Extension to extend your shelter, storage and living room, try the Oak Canyon Carpet  for extra-plush warmth and comfort under your feet, and use the Oak Canyon Footprint  to make pitching easier while adding protection for the groundsheet.

Flawed Design

Good size tent, but a poor design. The stitched in floor restricts putting tension on the ends of the tent - so it subsequently is never taught - not great in anything more than a breeze. Don’t buy

Tent good size

Blackout pods very good size and versatile. Children were asleep very quickly. Quick assembly. Carpet as an extra made it feel luxurious. Windows on tent were handy. Recommend the footprint.

Smashing Tent

Good quality product for the price seems sturdy + well thought out. It's quite compact but still spacious. I like the bedroom splitting abilities with this product, useful for storage. I do recomend!

Great Family Tent

We chose this tent as a replacement to another brand which had failed us. Go Outdoors were absolutely fantastic throughout the process of previous faults with a previous tent but upon their advice we chose a different brand, and ultimately chose this Oak Canyon and we are so happy we did.
We purchased the tent, the front extension, the footprint and the carpet in September 2018 and have been lucky enough to use it twice.
The space is fantastic for 2 adults and 3 young children, 7,6 & 2. The bedrooms are perfect for what we need, and lovely and dark. The carpet gives a lovely cosy feel and a little bit of luxury whilst camping.
The tent is easy to put up, and after only having done it once before, on our recent holiday to Cornwall, my husband and I managed to put it up in torrential rain and strong winds in just 30 minutes.
We swapped the included pegs for a mixture of hard and soft ground pegs and with those the tent stood up to some pretty strong winds over our recent week away, and it kept us warm and dry.
We are very impressed with this tent and cannot wait for our weekend trips this summer.

Leaked

Pros the tent looks good and it’s a great size but it leaked and the blackout rooms have light coming in from the rear vent. Returned tent

On third replacement

I love the design of this tent but it has a serious fabric failure. The first one had numerous holes in the blackout coating. We thought we'd live with this but we're very unhappy. In bright sunshine though the windows however the sewn in groundsheet shrivelled. The warmth of the sun literally melted the tarpaulin. Coleman were spectacularly unhelpful however go Outdoors eventually replaced. The second tent I used a carpet to protect the groundsheet, not that you should have to. It was damp and we had to lay the tent out at home to dry. I'd forgotten and through the window areas in not much sun the groundsheet puckered and shrivelled. I now have my third replacement and wish I'd never bought this. I have the unused extension also and no doubt that will have the same defeat. Be warned. Coleman have been absolutely useless and say it must be an isolated fault. Pegs are pathetic and not fit for a tent this size. No door poles which were expected. Very very unhappy. Had one holiday cancelled already while we waited for a replacement. I dread using it again. Might as well have bought the cheaper hi gear version, I wouldn't feel so cheated.

Nice tent

Good size tent for a family. The dark bedroom is a great feature. Only down side is no holes for pegs on the corners. And the pegs are rubbish glad we bought heavy duty ones when we bought the tent

Oak canyon 6

Bought this as an upgrade to our last tent. Just spent 2wks in Filey with it
Easy to put up ,took bout 30min in all, although couple of poles were sticky, thinking its just the newness.
no bedrooms are absolutely fantastic ,although when looking up we have seen what looked like tiny pin holes with sun shining thru. Husband assures me he thinks its just dye thats missing & not actually holes. Although we never actually found out as the weather for once was fantastic. So not tried it out in the rain yet.
Bedrooms are gd size ,plenty of space in living area ,although we added extension which again double the space. So far fantastic tent with no complaints. Highly recommend!

Coleman Oak Canyon 6

Bought this tent as a replacement and upgrade. First time in use it performed impressively.
It was fast and easy to put up there is plenty of room inside and the blackout bedrooms work well. We had a major storm and cloud burst right over head and it stayed dry inside.
So now the bad bits :
The pegs are pathetic And although there are eyelets in the bottom of the doors Coleman don’t supply the tent with door poles. I did email them regarding this and received a less than satisfactory answer suggesting I may like to buy an extension.
So I’ve upgraded the pegs and purchased some after market door poles not Coleman.

Good quality

Having chosen this tent over cheaper versions available we were not disappointed. The black out bedrooms are amazing and very good for my children who don't wake up with the sun at crazy o'clock on the morning. There's plenty of space for all our gear even though we have 4 children. We also purchased the extension which gives us more space for tables and chairs. Extremely happy with the purchase and would highly recommend. Takes around 30-45 mins to put up depending on the weather conditions. This does require 2 people ideally because of the size. It is worth spending the extra money for this over the cheaper versions of this size tent even if it just for the blackout bedrooms as this is an amazing feature.

Great so far

This tent is exceptionally good value. 1st time setting up and taking down is a pain but all tents r the same in that regard. We are a family of three with another on the way so chose this for its 2 bed rooms without blackout material and huge living space. Perfect for family of four maybe not for 5 or more. Easily fit table&chairs in living space. We fitted a double and a single in the larger room and there was still space. Only reason I give it 4 stars is we haven't used it that much yet so have to see if it stands the test of time and more wet and windy weather.

Great tent

So easy to put up, can’t believe I get so many benefits in one tent! The blackout walls were new to me and really made a difference. We had the perfect amount of room, including standing (2 x couples), that said, I am going to invest in the front extension for added storage.

Fantastic Value

Really pleased with this tent, great value and quality. Lots of space for longer breaks with a huge living area. Once you get used to putting it up it goes up very quickly. Would definitely recommend.

Family Tent

Feel like I am finally a grown-up in the camping world! Followed instruction video and tent was up in 50 minutes, very spacious for the four of us, plus the dog. The blackout bedroom is worth the money, we slept all night, without disturbance from light. Highly recommend to all fellow grown-ups.

Great Tent, really roomy

Really pleased with my Oak Canyon 6, was worried about the price and had no experience with the new design features, but have to say; the tent is of quality design and functionality, the sleeping area offers a perfect nights’ sleep. Particularly pleased with the large doors, getting furniture in and out was very easy. I purchased the extension which almost doubled the size of the living area

Roomy tent with Blackout Bedrooms that work

Excellent family tent, we have used a few times now in varying weather conditions on a windy night we had no fear of losing the canvas. So roomy in the bedroom and the blackout walls meant the kids woke later, giving us all a lie in…result!

Do not buy the front extension

If you're buying this on its own without the front extension then I'd give this 4 stars. Losing a star for the flimsy rear fibreglass pole, abysmal instructions and difficulty to pitch on your own. The tent itself is pretty good otherwise especially the black out bedrooms.

If you're intending to buy with the extension then I would give the entire package 0 stars.

See my review of the extension for more details. Moderate wind snapped all of the steel poles collapsing the tent on my sleeping 5 year old. This is 100% due to the design of the extension.
