Brilliant shelter, great value for money

Was initially slightly worried because of negative review. Bought anyway as needed for camping trip and we were really pleased. Survived torrential rain with no leaking.Extra side purchase a must!

Best dome shelter on the market

Bought out dome shelter in june to complement our hi gear sienna 6. Having just returned from our third holiday with it we have nothing but praise. Set up in around 8-10 minutes and steady as a rock in the most torrential winds and storms with not even a flutter except for clip in panels ( which is to be expected. So much so neighbouring campers have complimented on its sturdiness and are also buying one. We also bought four wall panels to totally keep the wind and rain from entering. We cannot recommend this product enough.

Awful!

We bought this to replace our old gazebo.

Goes up easy.

Leaks!

Leaks water pours in through the seams. Drips off the poles.

Ruined our camping trip so will be returning for a full refund!!!

Excellent - Fit for Purpose & Great Value

Just spent a week in a windy rainy field in Somerset. I endorse all the good reviews made by other users. Easy to put up single handed although another pair of hands is handy in windy conditions. But stupid me put it up first time inside out, and thinking each side was a door, then had to turn the tent round 90 degrees because there are just the two openings front and back. But easily accomplished. There's a video on U-tube of a guy putting this up... just search with the name Hi Gear Dome Shelter 350 and you'll find it easy. It convinced me to buy. Compared to alternative makes, the price for the Hi Gear includes 4 mesh sides as standard, two of which open as doors. They filter out flying insects and a lot of wind but not strong gusts. The mesh will also let in rain driven by wind, so I recommend getting three (or 4) of the solid sides at around £15 each. They're great for when its very wet or windy, and also provide privacy if needed. I had no issues cooking under the dome. Everyone can stand up anywhere under the dome... you're not restricted in height by the curves of the construction unlike other makes.
All the plastic joints the poles fit into have holes that enable you to loop a string or hook when its standing... well thought out. A nice touch is internally the tent fastens to the fame with Velcro - you still have guys and pegging points outside as you would expect.
Altogether a great bit of kit and good value. I am delighted with my purchase.

Hi Gear Done Shelter

Bought this shelter for our summer camp.
It proved to be money well spent, it kept the wasps and flies away at meal times with the mesh sides.
When the weather changed it kept everyone dry with the waterproof sides I bought as extras.
At one stage we had 6 adults and 5 children, eating and sheltering from the rain, plenty of space.
All I can say is that it’s a brilliant piece of kit 10/10.

Great item, poor customer srvice

Great item for sitting out in the evenings. Waterproof fabric but the rain will be driven in through the net sides so put everything in the middle overnight. The net keeps the midges out and a considerable amount of wind. Found it easy to put up by myself in about ten minutes, all the poles are colour coded. We lost two of the poles and contacted go outdoors to get replacements, initially said they did not sell this product, then they could not supply any spares, then they could. Three months later I am still waiting for the Gloucester store to supply them. Forty pounds for two poles, Expensive but I am willing to pay, looks like I will have to use a couple of broomsticks. I
In summary I can thoroughly recommend the shelter but don't expect any after sales service from go outdoors

Hi gear dome shelter

We bought this last year as a wow deal and, wow it was. It's great and easy to assemble. Don't know why guy says it leaks..ours doesn't, and stands up to all that the Highland weather can throw at it. Excellent purchase and the staff at the Inverness store are all very friendly and helpful

NOT waterproof

Despite the claims that the canopy is waterproof, it turns out that it isn't. Only a couple of the seams are taped, and the rest let the water stream through. As the sides slope inwards, this means that in the rain you can't put anything within 50cms of the sides in the rain, even if you have the side panels (which do actually stop the rain coming through the mesh sides). This leaves you huddling together in the centre to keep dry. Returned, but was only given a credit note as I "should have known it is not waterproof". Not impressed and will be contacting head office to obtain a full refund.

Hi Gear Dome

We bought one end last season because of holiday near vast expanse of water to keep midges away. Had really heavy rain and wind which it stood up to. Just wish we could get panels to keep water out through the mesh.

great piece of kit

Bought one of these on a wow deal. Best thing I've ever bought for camping. Main reason for purchase was to cook under it when raining . It is brilliant for cooking as the fine mesh reduces any wind dramatically , so much so that my windbreak is now redundant. we now eat in it and relax with a few drinks in the evening under it. And it comes with all round midge mesh so no longer getting eaten alive at dusk. Also very easy to pitch even by myself. If you're looking for a day/event shelter well worth considering one of these .

Excellent Product

I decided I needed one of these to camp in the great british weather and be able to cook in the shelter. Friends borrowed it yesterday and it was very easy to put up and provided suitable protection from the elements. I'm also liking the inside pockets for storage. Excellent product. Will look forward to using it myself for the 3 trips booked for August.

Hi Gear Dome Shelter

The shelter comes in a good carry case. The instructions for assembling the frame were clear and concise and putting it together, then fitting the frame was straightforward for one reasonably fit person. The quality appears good - not yet discovered its water resistant capabilities though. We will use it as an awning/kitchen to replace a pop-up gazebo that got trashed in a sudden storm last year.

Dome shelter

Easy to put up and down- took 1 person about 15 minutes. Packs away into carry bag easily. Wind and water proof. Stayed up for 5 days on the patio with nothing securing it to the floor. Delighted.

Essential

We gave our new Dome a go for the first time last week at Shell Island. For every day of our 6 day stay, the weather was warm and sunny but occasionally very windy. The Dome proved to be our camp's focal point; we ate in it, socialised in it and crucially, sheltered from.the sun in it. It's this last element where the dome comes into its own; it provides excellent shelter but it's also so cool inside too. The addition of a sun wall certainly helped in this respect.

In windy conditions the Dome held up without issue; structurally very strong and with multiple tethering points including the skirt, it did not budge an inch.

Finally, it's very simple to erect and equally easy to take down.

While you will see a lot of other event shelters in use, I really cannot recommend the Hi Gear Dome Shelter enough - great product and amazing value.

Fantastic Shelter

I am the manager of a Nursery and out of school club - we have had 2 of these up in the garden throughout the summer only taking them down on Bonfire night due to the wind picking up. They have lasted the whole summer - with lots of use from babies to teens - pulled, grabbed, crawled under..... you name it the children have tried it and they have survived. They are also a better shape than the Coleman ones as you can stand under the whole shelter making it easier to carry out lots of different activities or to have a table and chairs in their.
With the extended use, could do with a new canvas - hope you can replace separately.
