good bottle

most people reviewing the fuel; which is fine. I used it on a summers day in Wales so no problems there. I was very impressed with the sturdy bottle and the very safe pouring cover.

No complaints

Does what it says on the tin, pretty good value. Quite often out of stock in my local store (Oxford) but performs fine. I haven't yet tested it in really cold conditions but no complaints from -5C and above.

Clean hot burn in all conditions

I have found this fuel to vape very well and light in freezing conditions (so far tested to -11.5). As long as you have the correct gap between the stove and the pot, the fuel burns cleanly. I find it more efficient than meths with slightly longer burn times and hotter burns.

Vango Bio-Ethanol Spirit Fuel (1 Litre)

Great fuel

My favourite fuel

I absolutely love this fuel. I have tried solid cubes, gas, gels and this is the one I like the most. It burns well. Is easy to light. I absolutely prefer the smell of this to the smell of meths when used in a Trangia burner. It doesn't make your clothes or hair stink like using an Esbit cube does. The residue it leaves on the bottom of a put/kettle is really easy to remove with a little 'Astonish' on a brush.Sometimes I sit in the garden making a cup of tea using this fuel because it smells so nice.

Vango Bio-Ethanol Spirit

used this with Trangia burner and a Diy wire triangle pot stand L14cm X H7.5
using it Neat out of the bottle i found that it created soot deposit on the base of the pans, i then experimented using 10% water like you would with meths and it reduced the soot completely totally clean pan, the flame was cooler and taken a little longer to bring to a boil.

i also tried it on my Primus stove to see if it worked so i could use 1 type of fuel for all.

Primus Himalaya multi fuel, this was a complete flop. easy to light but when the burner reached temperature and started to burn the vapour, it couldn't maintain the flame and blew itself out. it would not relight until it was cool enough to squirt liquid again through the jet. tried 3 jets 2.8, 3.7, 4.5, The 4.5 jet worked the best out of these but still wouldn't maintain a reliable constant burn,

Verdict: Decent fuel for spirit burners like the Trangia.
But not suitable for the multi fuel with the stock jets. maybe a tweek to increase the jet hole size might work?

Vango fuel

Use this fuel type all the time, it is easy to light with flint and steel and burns for quite a while. well worth it for the price

good price easy to use

Used this for the first time with my DofE group. Worked really well, all participants able to use it effectively.

unable to remove lid

The bottle was bending with the effort to push the lid down and turn but despite two of us trying to remove the lid we had to resort to piercing the bottle and filling our trangia burner very carefully from the hole we'd created. the fuel itself worked well but flame was invisible until i sat the pan on top. had to bin the remaining liquid at the campsite as unable to safely transport after we'd had to put a hole in the bottle as lid wouldn't come off.

Superb fuel - it is now my go-to choice.

I've used many different types of fuels when camping or just out for a brew in the forest - this is the best I've used to date.

It lights easily with a spark from a firesteel - in daytime the flame is almost invisible so be cautious.

The burn is actually very clean - it won't clog up a Trangia with residue (as with Meths). A quick wipe with a damp cloth and your pot/kettle etc. is clean enough to be packed away.

Unlike gel-based (including Fire Dragon gel blocks) or 'hexi' tablet based fuels, there is no residue in the bottom of your burner after cooking, and because the product isn't artificially dyed, there aren't purple stains everywhere as with Meths.

I use this fuel in a Whitebox stove in a BCB Crusader Mk2 cookset base. I have also used it in many of my other stoves, including homemade ones and I've never had a problem with it.

This is the closest we will get to the performance characteristics of yellow Heet here in the UK - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Cheers, Dave.

Reasonable product at a reasonable price

I've used a few bottles of this stuff, and I can understand folks complaining about smoke or soot on their pans. This is something that I have seen from time to time with methylated spirits as well as ethanol, and have assumed it was due to the denaturing (read poison) ingredient these fuels have.

Any time I try a new fuel or even a different make of the same fuel, I experiment with it, I find that there is a difference that can require the pot being lower or higher to get the optimum flame to bear. I have found that often lowering the pot a little closer to the flame can reduce the sooting.

Another trick -used with methylated spirits too- is to have a little water to the fuel in the stove -on my Trangia I put one to two teaspoons of water for a full fuel load, shake it, and find the sooting is reduced or disappears. I have no idea of the science, but I always assumed that the water reduces the burn temperature of the alcohol fuel, and so the volatiles aren't as easily released, for sure the flame is reduced and the burn is longer. Depending on time of year you can get away with more water; in the summer I often water down the alcohol to increase burn time, and this helps simmer or cook food at a slightly lower temperature.

I gave it four stars just because it does need a bit of tinkering to get right...but the price is competitive...so honours even, I think.

Waste of money

Despite being told this product would work with my MSR Dragonfly stove, which is supposed to burn anything, it doesn't. Very hard to ignite and then will not maintain a burn. Ruined a weekend fishing trip as I had no other fuel and had to pack up a few days early.

Horrible

This is the first product I have been disappointed
with from Go Outdoors. Does not burn cleanly and
had tightness in the chest after using
Save your money.

Black soot

I was disappointed with this. Not a clean burn at all. Generated a lot of black soot on my pans.

Instead, I recommend the fuel4 branded bio ethanol. It burned much cleaner and is cheaper!

Not as clean a burn as expected

It may just be me, but I was somewhat disappointed with this alternative to meths for my lightweight Trangia brew kit.
True it is not as unpleasant a smell as meths.
It also seems to burn pretty hot, with comparable boil time for my trangia kettle (maybe even a little faster).
BUT the bottom of my kettle has ended up coated with a thin layer of soot :(
That has never happened with the usual meths I use - hence the 3* rating.
Anyway I will try it a few times more, to see if this was a one off. Will also try it in my larger Swedish Army Trangia kit to see if I get the same outcome. Will then revise rating accordingly...
