Great hood, well-made. Wetted out first time out, so reproofed - now on 4th reproof in 14 months: showerproof, but not waterproof. And avoid gorse/brambles/hawthorn else the lovely fabric will ruin...
Excellent rustle free waterproof jacket
Excellent Jacket. Just spent 5 hours in the rain and I'm still bone dry.
This jacket leaks in heavy rain when wearing a rucksack, around the belt. Everything else is expertly crafted but if it leaks, it fails on its main purpose . Sorry, but can’t recommend this.
The Helki is a great jacket, nice and comfortable. I purchased this new and on my 1st real downpour out I got wetted out. I contacted Paramo about this and was issued free re-proofing and this worked, been all ok since. I think the issue with these jackets they can be hanging around for a while in a storeroom and the DWR becomes ineffectiveo over time. I have given 4 stars, as a new product you shouldn't have to re-proof, though if you maintain this garment, as per instructions (it can be a faff depending how many times you use), it will not fail you.
This is an extremely breathable and comfortable coat, it keeps out the rain if worn properly and dries quickly. The windproofing really is essential for all my future coats after experiencing it
After researching the Paramo brand I thought I’d be getting a top quality product. I was wrong. The jacket does not keep the water out. It’s fine if it isn’t raining but pretty poor in the heavy stuff. I won’t be buying another product from the Paramo stable.
This jacket is not really waterproof, more like drizzle deterrent, as well as being heavy and bulky. The zips get stuck if you live near the sea.
I do like the big chest pocket.
probably the only waterproof jacket you will ever need with a lifetime guarantee twill eliminate to boot. On the expensive side but a great investment. In warmer wet conditions, t shirt will suffice and venting options via studs on the storm flap will help. In moderately cold conditions, tech baselayer and your good to go. Freezing/sub zero, i pair this with a good merino base and montane prism mid, good to go and warm iand comfortable despite whatever can be thrown at you on the hill in the winter, my rating 10/10, well done Paramo!
Put simply, it leaked through the zip - all the way down. So after about 30 minutes of walking in consistent, but not torrential rain I had a cold wet patch down my front.
It's wonderfully comfortable, windproof and with sensible pockets for all purposes but I've had jackets that cost me 1/5 of the price that just kept the rain out.
Great well thought out jacket; owning a reasonable amount of Paramo kit, now.........this item continues the trend of superb gear that works very well when the conditions worsen.
This is a brilliant jacket. I've owned many Gortex and more recently a polatech Neoshell. All of which I thought were great.
In cooler conditions (as a very rough guide 8-12C), they are the best jacket I've ever warn.
Excellent weather protection, wind and rain. I've worn it cycling and on all weather but snow on the Scottish hills.
It has a wide range of temperatures but for most conditions you just need a tech top. It is relatively compact and light (there are lighter jackets.)
If you live in Scotland, the Lakes or the North you need one of these in your life. It will replace so much other kit.
The hood does not offer so much visibility as stiffer Gortex but conversely it does offer more protection.
I like this jacket in general, it's warm and breathable and allows freedom of movement. I did find it waterproof until I walked in heavy rain with a rucksack when I found the water came through the jacket at the contact points with the rucksack, notably the shoulders. This led to wet arms, though the body remained fairly dry... And that's a problem. Will try additional waterproof spray around the shoulders but this shouldn't happen with a jacket this price.
There's no such thing as the jacket that does everything. But this comes close. Waterproof. Yes. Windproof. Yes. Good ergonomic fit. Yes. Warm. Yes. Just pick the right baselayer and away you go. Highly water resistant outer layer, which is soft to the touch, satin like and quiet. Warm inner lining to repel what, if any, moisture gets through the outer layer. Five poppers on the storm flap so you can vent through the front zip without the jacket billowing open. The waist hemcord IS there, you just have to find it, as the adjusters are hidden in pockets within the hem. Sensible length arms. Superb hood design. Fit is true to the size guide. I just wish Paramo had released this a long time ago. It would have saved me a lot of time and money on hard shells. A little on the heavy side, but you are, in effect, getting a waterproof jacket under which you can shed a normal layer.
I have had my eye on a Paramo Jacket for a while. Glad i bought an Helki Jacket, nice fit not baggy and shapeless like some. not tested in heavy rain yet just light snow.
I got mine for under £200 through price match, so very happy.
Just a personal opinion. Best hillwalking jacket ever owned. Tried most of what's available. Even beats the Alta 2. If you can only buy one jacket then get this one.
The jacket leaks after 3 hrs in heavy rain despite reproofing. It is bordering on dangerous in the mountains. I've been caught out 2 now up a mountain soaked to the skin and very cold,
