Take your actual body measurements as they are more accurate than measuring over your clothes or shoes.
Feet: Use a ruler or tape measure to measure your foot (from the heel to the tip of your longest toe) Be sure to measure both feet. Many people have feet of different sizes. Fit to the larger of the two.
Remember, feet can expand over a quarter size during a full day's walk so ensure you get the right fit.
Disappointed to find that I had to have long rubber riding boots for Salford College equine course instead of using my jody boots. However, these are perfect for everyday riding and mucking out. I travel on the bus to the yard and these look great too. I have recommended them to other students.

ideal boot for beginners
I have worn shire boots for some time now and find them an excellent boot for general use.
Only issue can be the fitting on the non-wide boots. These can be tight and difficult to get your foot into. I would always recommend the wider fitting if you can get it.
