Not a waterproof jacket

Whilst this jacket is well made and has some good features. Any significant downpour will soak through and the front pockets will fill up with water. Avoid if you want to stay dry.

Coat for any season

Stylish new colour with a fit that allows regulation of layers according to the temperature. Great price for a great coat.

Amazing Jacket

Always gone for high performance jackets usually by Mountain Equipment. Got interested in this jacket after reading some reviews and online research. 2 outings so far, one a 12 miler round Pen Y Fan and a 22 miler round the Gower Coast in South Wales. Both times there was proper Welsh weather. Pen Y fan didn't let me down with rain and sun and hail. As for the Gower Coast a beautiful sea mist with that fine rain and some heavier downpours. Both great tests for the jacket. It performed better than expected. Expensive yes but 300 quid over 10 or so years is not that bad. Just try not to lose it. Looks great too.

Parama pajaro menus jacket

I bought this my husband for Xmas.great service and quick delivery. He loves it. Well made, good pockets, draw strings, flexible cuffs, vents and hood with peak. Waterproof and wind proof but haven't tried it in really bad weather. Size was good and fitted well for his XXL size. He is really pleased and I would recommend this jacket.

Paramo pajaro

After being swayed by an outdoor magazine survey and assuming price means quality, which might apply to beer doesnt apply to outdoor jackets.
I must add I had never come across such an amazing feeling fabric either, like parachute silk.
It has some awful flaws though, it failed to keep water out and always has done, anything in your pockets that are porous will end up damp such as paper, matches etc. Take the front lower pockets, if the flaps are not press studded down or otherwise not aligned they become water storage devices and will flood, the majority of which seeps backwards onto your pants through the lining.
Chest pockets fare better but still, anything like paper will get damp sometimes depending on rainfall duration etc.
The biggest shock was when wearing the coat 'down' I.e full length and not turned up into a shorter coat using the cords, so it passes over your upper thighs, what haappens is in torrential rain, liquid is passes straight onto your trousers and drenches them very quickly, fine if your trousers are waterproof but a game changer in anything else. I have nnever seen this in any longer jacket before to this degree! I keep itup now, I actually saw a couple wales wearing them up to the waist and I soon saw why.
Mine leaked small but significantly, enough to we thet next layer of clothing in patches.
The hood, centre back, shoulders, waist regularly allow water in, enough to annoy when jackets of a quarter the price outperform in the wet, my ten year old North Face Haven't which is in bits is at least still as waterproof as the Pajaro.
The water issue occurred before the coat was ever washed, it's always been leaky.
The good points are many though, I would recommend it and I love mine, it's the coolest coat out there.
The chest pockets will fit a carrier bag of shopping including a cooked chicken and 2x2L bottles of coke. They are vast and make up a side each of most of the front!
Theatrics silent, even bending arms there is barely a whisper from the microfibre fabric.
The hood is great, adjustable forwards and back or sideways by manipulating the cords and the collar joins perfectly around it, tweak the front visor and is ready for any head even one wearing a helmet.
There are durable rubber wrist adjustments with Velcro, this is beginning to wear over the stitching after 5 years almost continuous use but still sound. Very little has worn out really.
It dries quick, and it's lightweight.
Luckily it's durable but paramo seemed think it's better to 'pump' liquid out rather than prevent it's ingress, unfortunately it can't pump fast enough.
All this is based on many years with same Pajaro coat.hoever I wouldn't risk another because it failed in the wet. Andy

Lacks Quality which is the sum of the parts

This jacket looks the part. Used for 10 weeks almost daily and in some HEAVY down pours, with great comfort and dryness.
HOWEVER, quality of components NOT robust. Hood pull cord adjusted snapped off. Leaving hood covering eyes, when its wet and wild. Returned to Go Outdoors for them to send off and assess unto 28 days! Lets see.....think twice about how you will use this coat. Not convinced they are robust.

Owned for 3 yrs

I've just looked up the Go Outdoors receipt for my jacket to find out how long I've had it . 3 yrs! It's never let me down, always waterproof and wind proof. I've washed and reproofed with NikWax a few times.
Something you should know. As a birder and a dog walker, I'm out in all weathers and places. This jacket material is amazing. It looks nothing much but out on the Down struggling through bracken and brambles, the material has never ripped or torn or shown signs of snagging despite getting caught in bramble thorns every now and then. I've often thought "Oh Oh! That's torn it" But it hasn't.!!
The hood is very good. Stays in place and turns with your head.
I could have done with a couple more pockets but there are 5 in all, two of which are quite deep to stow stuff.
This is the sort of jacket that you may get warm in but not sweat up. Two sleeve vents also help you keep cool. Just wear a T under.
I paid over 200 3 years ago and I would buy it again.
Buy if you are not just buying to pose in but are a true outdoors person.

High maintenance jacket

Im a wildlife photographer in the Cairngorms and push this jacket hard.

It started off great. Nice fit, lots of pockets and kept me dry.

However the jacket now needs almost weekly reproofing and is not waterproof for long. Several of the zips also are no longer functional.

Would not recommend

flaters to deceive

This is the second Pajero jacket I have had, The first leaked like a sieve immediately all up the back and shoulders. I returned it and was after a heated discussion given a replacement.. I took a walk on sunday and the replacement jacket leaked through the pockets, shoulders and sleeves. Unless you re-proof these things constantly they are NOT waterproof. They are a hype- laden ,over-rated product. My Old Mountain equipment cagoule lasted twenty years before it gave up. Give me Goretex any day rather than this suspect rubbish. john

Lightweight luxury

Like others who have posted about this jacket, I thought long and hard about spending so much on a slightly unconventional and possibly controversial sort of waterproof.
I shouldn't have worried - it's brilliant! It's like wearing your own waterproof air-conditioning unit. Ok, I've not had it long enough to really put it to the test but I'm confident that I won't be disappointed if experience to-date is anything to go by.
Just one point - and it's a matter of interest more than anything else; I ordered the XL mens jacket but poppers on the front storm flap over the zipper does up on 'the ladies side'. Have I got the right jacket? I find it a little awkward to do it up properly.

Best Water Proof clothing on the market

I have used this jacket and trousers for well over a year now. I am a serious walker and have been out in some really heavy rain. The clothing has never let me down. It is light to wear and comfortable. I have always used gortex garments in the past but tried this after a friend recommended it. I love it and wont go back to gortex. I do tend to get hot when walking and I love the Paramo as its cooler than anything else Ive tried. I am a real convert and for me the high price of these garments is worth every penny. If I get cold I simply put on a fleece under the paramo. Most of the time I just wear the paramo on its own with a T-shirt underneath. Be careful when you reproof it to ensure there is no detergent left in the machine or you will have to reproof it again! I learned this lesson. I always clean outthe washing machine soap drawand run the machine empty on a hot wash before I reproof. Follow the washing instructions to the letter and they come out like new. Great garments and I have no hesitation in recommending. I just bought a new pair of trousers in the sales.

Amazing jacket

I've been researching my new jacket for a while. There's mixed reviews on the Paramo gear, on here too. I decided to shell out nearly 300 notes on this and have not been disappointed.
Having been used to wearing ventile and wax jackets, I found the jacket very lightweight.

Let me say, this is waterproof, and breathable like no other, for me works better than double layer ventile. I got caught out recently in some heavy rain for over an hour. I had only a cotton shirt beneath, but wasn't cold, nor particularly warm. Just comfortable. Once I'd got in the car, I was bone dry, no stiff heavy jacket either. The jacket outer was completely dry within half an hour.

So far very impressed.

Cracking bit of kit

Having never left Gore Tex jackets before I was dubious about this jacket being waterproof, wicking and breathable but I was proved wrong, having reluctantly parted with a lot of money for a jacket I was eager to try it out. Today was the day, 6 miles in torrential rain whilst out with the dogs, I pushed hard to build up a sweat and half way round checked to see if my t shirt was moist, it wasn't, despite being very warm, also the jacket had kept me bone dry. I then tried the vents and double zip, they work brilliantly, the bicep vents act like a bellow as you walk and move your arms shifting hot moist air and drawing in cool ventilation, much better that the 'pit zips' on other jackets, the main zip pulls down and up meeting in the middle, this really cooled me down without removing layers. The hood is great, very low noise when moving, can be adjusted to grip your head even when the front is not zipped up tight.
Overall a cracking bit of kit with a lifetime guarantee

Superb

Bought this from Go Outdoors having eyed it up on numerous occasions and done some review checks online, forum chats etc. One thing I would recommend when buying is wear your typical layers, (base, mid, etc) when you try your sizing as the correct fit gives you an excellent garment. Seems like it's been well tailored and getting the size right allows great articulation of your torso and arms without the jacket hitching up, infinitely adjustable for 'as snug as you wish' fitting, best wired hood I have come across ever and clever easily adjustable cuffs.
In use the jacket is warm and dry in wet and wild conditions, but you don't overheat even dry sunny or humid conditions. Under arm ventilation is superb.
You may think it seems a bit "thin" at first but honestly the three different materials (parameta, paramo's internal fabric, nikwax's analogy mid liner pumps water outwards and nickwax breathable outer) make a tough lightweight, completely wind and waterproof all conditions outer layer. And importantly for some outdoor pursuits like nature/bird watching the material is quite quiet in use, no loud 'swishing' with the slightest movement.
Have used this in the worst of my Scottish Highland weather and would recommend to everyone who ventures out into wild conditions.
Better equipped leads to a more enjoyable outdoor experience.
Buy it before it's changed or dropped from stock, doesn't that always seem to happen to the good stuff.........
I got mine from Go Outdoors on the loyalty card and a promotion discount on top making it an absolute bargain.
One warning, this jacket may make your 'old faithful' outer redundant ; )

Paramo Pajaro

Was concerned when I first received the jacket, material seemed flimsy but quickly changed my mind when I wore it in heavy rain . Had it for over two years and it is worn almost daily dog walking, birding . Waterproof and windproof it dries incredibly quickly . best jacket I've ever worn.
