A durable jacket that gives you the weather protection, moisture management and temperature control to keep you comfortable in almost any climate.

To keep comfortable while mountain walking, you need efficient moisture control to prevent chilling, and good ventilation to reduce the need for clothing changes while you're carrying packs and using navigation equipment. Ideal for all walking activities to the highest level, the Paramo Alta III Jacket uses Nikwax Analogy Waterproof fabric for very effective weather protection and moisture management, with easy ventilation for temperature control, a reinforced back panel for pack carrying, and many other walker-friendly design features.

It's cut to be unrestrictive, protective and comfortable, with shoulder and arm articulation that allows for the maximum movement without the jacket riding up.

  • Upper arm vents with mesh Pump Liner for temperature control on the move without water ingress
  • Rapid-drying mesh Pump Liner reinforcement on shoulders and back..
  • Six pockets: 2 handwarming pockets, ‘fast access’ chest pocket with D-ring attachment, large external map pocket, secure internal map-sized pocket and valuables pocket
  • Precisely adjustable, wired-peak hood which stows in collar - works well with goggles or spectacles and gives a wide field of vision
  • Two-way locking front zip (with poppered internal storm flap) allows for easy ventilation and access to inner layers
  • Adjustable cuffs easily pushed up or rolled for cooling.
  • Waist cord adjustment for precise fit
  • Concealed cords and locks throughout improve water/ snow shedding
Nikwax Analogy fabric is not only very breathable, but also directional - it directs liquid water as well as water vapour to the outside, protecting your insulation (standard breathable membranes cannot transport liquid water, so if your sweat production exceeds moisture vapour transfer, condensation builds up, soaking your inner clothing, and leaving you cold). Nikwax Analogy garments work better for high activity, and in cold or humid conditions, removing all sweat and condensation. Another bonus is that Analogy fabric does not use a membrane or laminate layer to keep you dry, so it is soft and rustle-free (membranes or laminate waterproofs are often noisy and inflexible)

The Paramo Alta III Jacket has passed the Leeds University Rainroom Test, so you can wear it with confidence in heavy rain or in cold conditions throughout the year. Because the fabric system offers significant insulation, this is not the best garment to deal with heavy showers in very hot conditions.

Top Jacket if you know its uses

Having suffered from soaking myself in a jacket on several occasions and my lightweight north face jacket eventually falling to pieces i decided to try something completely different. Having looked at goretex and goretex pro for a similar price I went for this despite the expensive cost. Here's why it was worth it.

Well featured, lots of pockets adjustment cords and well thoiught out design ventalation zips etc.

Looks good, colour is bright but not in your face.

Nikwax analogy technology. okay so i was somewhat of a sceptic with the claim it was the most comfortable but was prone to leaking in extended rested use which lest face it no one wants while up a hill or mountain.

anyway long story short. it works!!

went out and did 4 wainwrights in misty to raining conditions roughly about 7 hour out. rained for about 2 and all i had underneath was a merino baselayer that would have kept me warm but it would have been noticablr if it got wet. when i got down and went to a cafe took the jacket off and i was bone dry and had been comfortable all day.

i tech wash it after a couple of heavy uses and its right as rain ( no pun intended)

if your looking to an alternative to goretex and don't mind the cost this is really the product to look at and the extra features compared to the other jackets were the reason i bought this particular one.

Pros if looked after should last for 10 years plus
more comfortable in use than membrane jackets
thicker so more insulation
looks good
dosent rustle like tracing paper

price quite a lot even for what it is
weight and pack size, its not a small packing jacket and weighs more than any membrane jacket and if packed up will take a lot of space in a bag. more of a autumn spring winter jacket for the uk.

Alta Jacket

A convert to Paramo products many years ago. This jacket was purchased ready for the oncoming winter. Early days but the jacket has kept me dry and comfortable on very wet outings to Snowdonia.

Another great Paramo jacket

Both my wife and I are fans of Paramo jackets. We both have Alta II jackets that have given good service and have never let us down whatever the weather. This jacket was purchased as a replacement for my wife's Alta II. Functionally there is nothing wrong with it, however, it is showing signs of it's age. My wife tried both the female and male versions of the Alta III, but was sold on the additional pockets the mans has over the ladies.

An easy to wear effective waterproof jacket

This jacket has all the features I've looked for in a waterproof and it has the ultimate aid to breathability, in my view, upper arm vents. It is lighter than my earlier Paramo whilst still being as easy to wear and nearly silent whilst you walk, or undertake any activity. Paramo waterproofs are legendary for keeping their wearers dry, when other shell type jackets might leak.
A little more expensive than some of its competitors, certainly, but perhaps a better buy and a Fair Trade product too.

Excellent jacket

The paramount jacket is excellent, it's light, warm and waterproof, exactly as I expected. The sales staff were very helpful and provided detailed information on its features.

An amazing comfortable and well fitting jacket

I bought the Atla III to replace a paramo jacket that had served me well for nearly 15 years.
I had considered another make which was very good but the Paramo exceeded it in quality and fit. It has style; It is so light; it is warm; it's windproof; and that's before I even get round to the great pockets.
Bought at Go Outdoor in a sale and with the savings I bought a thick winter fleece which wears well with the Atla.

The best jacket on the market.

I had an Alta II which did many years of great service. It did Munros & many long distance walks and I still use it for short local walks. I decided that a new jacket for future mountain and long distances was needed & it had to be the Alta III. It looks & feels even better than the Alta II.

Great jacket

This was my first Paramo jacket and it did everything it was supposed to do. Was walking in Glen Coe mountains in heavy rain for a week and it protected me from some extreme elements.

Paramo alta iii

I have bought goretex jackets from go outdoors before but wanted to try paramo. Bought this jacket in the summer and found it to be too warm. It does have underarm zippers for ventilation which do help and good hand pockets. It also has two good sized chest pockets. It has kept me dry on some wet days and kept me warm on cold ones. I find i have had to change my layering to suit. This jacket has turned out to be my best buy yet despite it being a tad on the warm side, but i'm sure it will come into its own in the winter. Great jacket . Well recommended .

Excellent jacket

I bought this jacket just before Christmas, I have worn it on walks in Germany and the Peak District, as well as for a weeks skiing, it has always kept me warm, comfortable, and dry. It was completely wind proof whilst I was skiing, the left hand inside pocket worked for my ski pass, and when I fell over and managed to get powder snow up my jacket, it moved the water outwards as soon as it melted and was dry within 30mins. I have a few minor things that could be improved with it, the sleeves are a little long for me which makes the vents a little hard to open when wearing heavy gloves, the hand warmer pockets end up under my backpack hip strap, and finally as I'm typically not using a helmet I would like a bit more ability to reduce the volume of the hood.

I strongly recommend this jacket for anyone looking for a comfortable, dependable, waterproof jacket.

GO Staff Recommended Product

I bought this jacket as a present for my partner who is a dog walker. He absolutely loves it. It keeps him dry on the wettest of days and is very warm. Once wet it is very quick to dry. I have asked Santa for one of my own, fingers crossed!

Fits a tall man well

I'm 6'3" tall, was worried about the fit of this jacket, Its great, plenty of sleeve length to come over my gloves; and comes down half way over the seat area while standing. Now I'm praying for a heavy downpour so I can try it out in the rain. Really like the "non rustle" cloth.

Big upgrade on Alta II

All the Alta II defects closed out.
* Left Breast pocket waterproof.
* No rear waist cord to fret & wear
* Nice left inner pocket for Keys.
* Better tailoring - no baggy breast pockets + streamlined arm vent zips
* Thinner & Lighter than A II - goes easily into rucksack - will be used mid to late spring
* Longer length - bucking the trend for short jackets.
