Bought these trousers over a year ago now. I have used them on many long a day on the hills and when pressure washing at work.
I’ve used them in summer with the side vents unzipped to ventilate and keep cool.
I’ve also found them very comforable on top a munro with snow and high winds with some under armour tights underneath.
I would not say these trousers are particularly water proof but they dry ridiculously quick and have never bothered me.
Used the price match at go outdoors and picked them up for under £50 as well. Great buy!!!

Comfortable but not waterproof
Very comfortable to ware and ideal for those long treks. However, I was disappointed that after a week the water resistance of the material had deminished to such an extent that my legs now get wet every time it rains.

Really well designed and comfy walking trousers. I’m currently on my third pair and will more than likely purchase again.
Montane always design great equipment.

Good, nearly great
Have used these for a couple of reasonably tough trips and they are a very good pair of trousers - stretchy, comfortable, durable, good looking and highly suited to UK mountains.
Only downfall was they did not stay particularly water resistant for long and sizing comes up a bit small as others have mentioned before.
All in all a very solid, reliable and comfortable pair of trousers for almost all expeditions - haven't used in winter yet so not sure if they would be suitable during the winter.

I can't really add anything that hasn't been said in other reviews, except for the fact that they come up a little tighter than expected.
I bought size XL, and having a 36" waist I assumed 37" trousers would be fine. However they are very, very snug at the waist band. Having said that, they're perfectly comfortable.
Perhaps the only other thing I can say is that the contrast knees break up what would otherwise be yet another pair of hiking trousers offered in a rather unimaginative black.

These are the best outdoor trousers I own. The material is really tough yet comfortable and the stretch works really well with the pre articulated knees. Uphill walking is so much easier with this functionality. I love the vents at the thigh too. Easy to reach and actually work to help keep the air flow moving. The top of the trousers remain totally secure as you work around the environment and don't ride up or down either. The inner of the top has a really soft microfleece type lining that really helps with the comfort level, and the belt belt that comes with the trouser is strong and easy to use with a single hand.
The right hand pocket has a pull out security zipped pocket ideal for essentials but not big enough for a phone for example.
The zips at the bottom of both legs help fit the trousers whilst wearing pretty much any footwear and the poppers help stop them flapping around as you work, keeping you warmer.
They are not waterproof but are lightweight and quick drying.
The design of these trousers is great, making them look good and perform well. No doubt these are too quality and would definitely recommend to walkers and climbers. Good price for what you get too!

Wore these recently to complete the Yorkshire Three Peaks. They we really comfortable throughout the day. Following torrential rain they remained comfortable and dried very quickly. They kept the wind out all day and were fully breathable. I can't recommend these enough. Have bought a second pair and have now replaced my Mountain Equipment trousers as my go to walking trousers.

very comfortable but not as tough as I hoped
I bought these trousers just over a year ago and used them as my only trousers on a one month trek in arctic Sweden, 5 weeks in Patagonia (mostly trekking) and a total of about 7 weeks hill walking in Scotland. So they have been well used.
I love these trousers because they are lightweight and the stretch material makes them very comfortable. They are also very breathable, yet windproof. Comfort is second to none!
They are supposed to be somewhat water repellent but I found that disappointing because it wears off almost immediately. However, that doesn't really bother me because these pants dry so quickly! Also, even when they are wet they are still windproof and therefore you won't get chilled very quickly.
As I mentioned the stretch material makes them very comfortable to wear. But what also impressed me is that they keep their shape very well, even after the trousers have seen so much use. I have owned similar trousers from another brand and they lost their stretch and became baggy after some time. Not these trousers!
However, I have one complaint. Because these trousers have reinforced patches on knees and inside ankles I was hoping them to be more durable than they proved to be. Very soon holes developed in the reinforced inside ankle areas. In all honesty I must say that I am quite prone to that kind of wear and all my trousers tend to develop holes in these areas. But because the Montane Terra Stretch Pants have these areas specifically reinforced I was expecting a bit more from them in terms of toughness. It’s a real shame because as I mentioned before the stretch material keeps it’s shape so well. So if it wasn’t for these holes the trousers would still be as new.
+ Very comfortable
+ Very breathable
+ Quick drying
+ Quite windproof
+ Keeps its shape very well over time (doesn’t get baggy)
- Not as tough as I hoped
- Quite expensive

Meet the spec
I purchased these trousers for a climbing holiday abroad and they were great. The stretchy material allowed great flexibility for climbing and walking. The material was really tough and protected my knees from many bashes with scarp rocks without ripping. They were also very good at dealing with the changeable conditions, as they are both breathable, warm and splash proof.

Montane Terra Stretch pants
Excellent summer weight soft shell trousers. They shed light rain, wick well and are the most comfortable pair of trousers I have ever owned. Day trips into the Cheviots and an expeditions to Knoidart and Ben Nevis and they still look like new.
