topeak race rocket mini pump

Same issue as several other owners of this pump. Wanted to love this little gem but have had a couple of occasions recently when the pump just refuses to put air into the tube, just experiencing back pressure. Unfortunately as I have owned it for several years I wouldn't get my money back. If your thinking of buying one make sure your mate carries another brand of pump as you`ll be needing it !!!

Meehhh!

The pros.
Well made quality feeling product.
Light and compact.
Pumps well once properly connected

The cons.
Difficult to get a good connection, seems silly with being a screw on, but i think thats exactly where the problem lies.

Over priced, nearly tenner cheaper in crc or on amazon and 5er cheaper on wiggle.

Honest opinion. I wouldn't buy this pump again. Personally I prefer the push on type, the quality of construction is hard to argue with And once you have a good connection it pumps well.

Update review

I have given two previous reviews on this pump. Initially I was quite happy with it and gave it a five star review. After it let me down many miles from home I then gave it a one star review. I wasn't really happy as the pump had hardly been used and believing the guarantee period lapsed I couldn't really take it back. I was going to contact Topeak and let them know what I though of their product. On checking their website I saw that Topeak pumps have a two year guarantee. I took the pump back to Go Outdoors who sent it off to Topeak and three weeks later I had a brand new pump. Hope the new pump is more reliable as the size of it is perfect. If it this proves to be the case i'll be more than happy with the pump, just means getting lots of punctures to test it out. Given five stars for the service from Topeak and Go Outdoors, fingers crossed on the pump.

What a let down

I reviewed this pump in November 2016 giving it five stars. It was exactly what I wanted and worked well. Since buying it I have used it two or three times at the most. Half way round a fifty mile ride today I got a flat. Changed the tube and tried to inflate it using this pump. All I got was back pressure and no air going into the tube. Good job my mate had a pump to get me going again. Tried using this pump when I got home and again it would not inflate a tyre there was just no air going into the tube. I used my old plastic bodied unbranded pump, which I have owned for years and has never let me down to inflate the same tyre which it did easily. When operating the this pump without it being attached to an inner tube valve it pumps away quite happily then suddenly you can't pump it anymore due to back pressure. Looks like I've had the same problem as the other two reviewers. This pump is totally unreliable and I cannot recommend it at all.

Excellent Little Pump

I've had this pump several months now. It is small fits into my saddle pack with ease and you don't know it's there when in your jersey pockets. Inflated 23c road tyre nice and hard without to much effort. Replaced my other Topeak pump which was bigger, worked well, but you had to work harder to pump up road tyres properly.

Not reliable

I purchased one of these as a small packable pump. First time i went to use it on a schraeder valve, the air hose jammed and pump was unuseable. Go outdoor replaced it. Second use of the new pump on a presta valve, it partially inflated a repaired tube, i fitted the tube and then the pump would not inflate the tyre. Just no air reaching the tube. Tested it when i got home from a three week tour, and same problem on different tubes. I would not trust this model again. Normally i have found topeak brands to be reliable products but this pump is just not reliable.

Useless for MTB tyres

Attempted to use this on two occasions both time it failed me, pulled out of my backpack fitted the the new inner and it just would not inflate my tyre, well and truely fed up half way around ladybower and once again on holme moss.. Given it to a roadie brother in law, hopefully he has more luck with it, decided to stick to the alloy drive medium by lezyne

Worth the extra pennies

This is an awesome piece of kit. It is so small and compact, it barely exists. Inflates my mtb tyres effortlessly in no time whatsoever. A+

Good pump

Well made, reliable, you don't even notice you're carrying it.
I would definitely recommend this pump to any serious cyclist, you can be confident it's going to work when you need it.

never had to use it...

...and i hope i never do! Odd, but its the sort of important piece of kick, essential for those 'just in case' moments. Having said that its light, well made and fits perfectly into my Topeak under-saddle bag. Not sure this helps but...
