Side sleeper warmth
I'm a heavy (100kg) side sleeper and this pad is great. Have had really good sleeps on it.
It uses witchcraft and sorcery to create a self inflator that is light, warm and fast to inflate.
Initially takes around 20 breaths and then if you follow the instructions it proves really quick: important when it's cold. Around 3 to 5 breaths to top it off to your liking.
Easy to adjust your comfort level with the serviceable Thermarest valve. Compatible with the Thermarest pump sack.
Even though I can't feel much of the internal foam when I squeeze it, I've fully opened the valve and then closed it and then laying on it I didn't hit the floor. Rather I stayed magically afloat and well off the ground. There's some great technology here.
I almost got the Klymit insulated V but very glad I got this one as it suits side sleeping perfectly. Note that the Pro lite Apex regular is a standard 20" width but has a mummy shape so you have the option of slipping it inside your tapered bag. I don't do this though.
The outer material is strong and reasonably grippy: my very slippery bag stays put.
When you first open the bag there will be a bit of a smell. Don't be alarmed, you haven't got a mouldy used one: the smell will fade.
Remember to fully inflate and leave for a couple hours first time.
Overall I think Thermarest have produced an outstanding pad with this one. It's totally quiet to sleep on, comfortable, practical and warm in a small, light package. After use and with its sack it weighs in at about 690g (630g would be without the sack and with no residual air inside).
