A stripped-down Pertex® Shield® waterproof jacket for all-round mountain protection, wherever you are.

Rab's Downpour Plus Jacket is made from Pertex® Shield fabric, with a minimal design and a 'regular' fit that leaves room for a fleece midlayer underneath.

Measuring tips

Take your actual body measurements as they are more accurate than measuring over your clothes or shoes.

CHEST: Measure around the fullest part of your chest, making sure to keep the tape under the arms and around your shoulder blades.

WAIST: Measure around the smallest part of your waist (natural waistline).

HIPS: Stand with your heels together and measure around the fullest part.

INSIDE LEG: Measure from the top of your inner leg, along the inside seam to the bottom of your leg.

It's about as good as no Goretex Gets

Firstly it's not an expensive 4 season Goretex shell. What it is thoughtho a pretty decent lightweight downpour shell.

A couple of weeks ago whilst up above Thirlmere it did it's self proud. I had forgotten my Mera and this was all I had, but it smashed through rain, snow, gales and hail and was dry and ready to go again rapidly even in a tent.

Your arms get a bit wet, which I would think is more down to moisture build up than moisture from the outside as the hyrostatic head is pretty good on this one. My Mera also gets wet on the arms so you know.......

I got mine for £90 quid, so the challenge is, are there any better sub £100 shells on sale right now, I don't think there are

RAB downpour plus jkt

Lots of features ,except the one called waterproof. Just walked for a couple of hours in light rain and my arms were soaking wet. Very disappointed. And this only second time of use.

Not waterproof

I have worn this jacket several times in rain and been soaked through. I even returned it to Rab who said there was nothing wrong with it. So I tried it again with the same poor performance. Do not trust this jacket to keep you dry as it could be dangerous in remote and exposed conditions.

downpour

I own many three layer jackets (expensive)...caught out with no jacket and it was pouring down outside so I decided to buy this jacket to get across the city whilst in store(great price)..smiling watching the beads of rain fall off.

packs down small and perfect for a brief downpour/taking dog for walk..not for 4 seasons mountain use ???

Disappointing when it matters

I’ve had quite a few waterproof jackets and Rab gear. I really liked the colour and fit of this jacket and planned to use it as a lightweight “just in case” jacket for hiking as well as mountain biking. I wore it today for about an hour in moderate rain and it simply didn’t hold up. It was cold weather and my activity wasn’t high intensity so condensation shouldn’t have been an issue. I just don’t think the Pertex was up to it. Shame as I had higher expectations.

Doesn't perform as well as it looks

Let me start by saying that I very aware that waterproof performance depends greatly on the type of jacket, the number of layers applied to the jacket, the brand of membrane etc etc. Waterproof should mean exactly that but it's not that simple, I get it.
That being said the pertex shield didn't put up a great fight against a short downpour and the dwr coating was non existent so water did not bead well off the shoulders. I own alot of Rab and I know they normally deliver quality but I can only review what is in front of me and this particular garment failed me miserably when needed the most. It is very light and quite breathable but for an extra 100grams or so (barely noticeable) and an extra £90 you can get the Mantra which is in a different league. I know because I purchased it to replace this one.
Great looks, unreliable performance, buy the Mantra

Rab light weight jacket

A little pricey but all Rab gear is. Buy cheap pay twice, it's that simple. Excellent quality, very light weight, great zips, folds into one of the existing pockets which I hadn't realised before I purchased. It's simply a must have item.

Rab downpour plus jacket is great

Firstly Gooutdoor staff amazing very helpful and full of knowledge.
Now the jacket... Exactly what you'd expect from Rab. Excellent build quality and does what it's meant to. Keep you dry! Packs down to a very small size.

Great jacket

Brilliant outer shell waterproof, kept me completely dry in worst of the rain. Only extra thing i'd like to see is an internal security pocket, though I know it's hard when you're aiming to make a thin outer shell.

Top Quality, Fantastic Price

What an cracking jacket, waterproof, breathable and great to look at. I have worn this on several long hikes and it has been comfortable, keeps out the rain and the wind, and the under arm vents work great in preventing over sweating. You definitely get what you pay for.
