Men's Footwear Size Guide

Measuring tips

Take your actual body measurements as they are more accurate than measuring over your clothes or shoes.

Feet: Use a ruler or tape measure to measure your foot (from the heel to the tip of your longest toe) Be sure to measure both feet. Many people have feet of different sizes. Fit to the larger of the two.

Remember, feet can expand over a quarter size during a full day's walk so ensure you get the right fit.

Poor quality, but comfortable.

If you want a boot that's comfortable out of the box, buy these. If you want a boot that lasts more than a year with a medium amount of hill and moor walking, or is waterproof then don't buy.

Really comfortable,,useless in wet conditions.

The most comfortable boots I have owned but the soles are so hard they become unsafe in wet conditions.

Comfortable and dry

We walk every between 2/5 miles a day in all terrains. Have had other makes of boots but find these very comfortable and the Gortex lining keeps my feet dry.

Rubbish - fell apart - waste of money

Initially comfortable boots BUT the soles have come away from the uppers - split on both boots. The inner sole has also broken up and gone lumpy - Rubbish boots

Fell apart

I bought these for their grip having got a broken ankle. They were very good and my ankle recovered very quickly, good support. But 11 months in, a lump of rubber has dropped off the heel. Not good.

Not good for the price.

Wide fit boots, used 14 months and then split between upper and sole , so of no use in wet . Replaced and then same happened again after 15 months, even though they were treated regularly.

Excellent

These boots are amazing. They took across the lowlands and mountains in Nepal with no problems. They are incredibly comfortable.
And best of all, I use these boots every single day, no matter what the weather or terrain, to walk my dogs. Best boots I've ever owned!!!!

Good while they last

Comfortable straight out of the box with little wearing in needed. Went on holiday to Skye and coped with hill walking and, having waterproofed them, they were ok in shallow water. Used them again on weekend in Peak district and were still comfortable. Unfortunately the sole and material around the toe box came apart rendering them useless. Now only using them for dog walking in the dry. The sole also squeaks like a mouse. Not worth the money but comfortable while they lasted about 15 months

brilliant boots

I have bought several high end branded boots , meindl , arcteryx , berghaus salomon ,.. but these are fantastic !
if you're walking on paths , road , hard tracks then a lot of boots can have that over stiffness , harder heel strike , this was why i bought these , they solve the problems.
they have a lovely softer all round feel from inside with a softer foot bed / sole ,i have fought leather boots but sometimes a little too tough for me.
i added an inner soft insole to add to the luxury , i am around a 10.5 uk , i bought an 11 so i can add thicker socks or insoles to adjust to suit and i am very happy on my first 5 mile walk. ..... highly recommended.

comfortably but loud

I cant beleve how much noise these boots make.
Its like having woopee cushons attached to your feet.
Ive done about 100 miles in them hoping they might break in , But they dont.
Ive thrown them in the garage and will use them for work.
Ive had several pairs of the moab shoes and they were great . but these are to loud to use as walking boots.

Comfortable boots

I am in the process of buying my 3rd pair of Moabs having used them for daily walks and hill walking.
I would not recommend them for use where the terrain is rocky as the sole is thinner than my leather boots. However I would say that for normal trekking and walking in the Lakes, Snowdonia, Dartmoor etc they are fine.

So Comfy

Firstly Sue who advised me in store was really good, patient and knowledgable who offered me a wide range of options and helped me to make my choice.. went fo the Merrill boots priced at £125. Sue got on line to price match them with other suppliers and then took off another 10% which bought them down to under £100. The boots themselves are a quality product so very comfortable dry and a stylish rugged design. I would fully recommend them as I would GO Outdoors.

Ok, but...

Start with the positives, these are very comfortable boots, ideal for dog walking or day walks on decent trails. What they’re not are mountain walking boots.

I bought them ahead of a summer walking trip to the Scottish highlands and they’re really not ideal for that I’m my opinion, for the following reasons:

Firstly, they’re not waterproof, more ‘splashproof’ like an old Timex watch! Fine for walking the dog in damp grass, but in sodden undergrowth my feet were squelching within the first hour. My mate, in traditional leather boots, had no such issues.

Secondly, one reason they’re comfortable is that the soles are thin and bend with your feet as you walk. Fine on smooth ground, but you feel every rock and stone through them. After a few hours walking on rough ground my feet felt battered and bruised and it was a relief to get them off. However the Vibram soles are very grippy, even when you can only get a toe hold on greasy rock. And the thin soles mean you can drive in them.

As other reviewers mention, sizing is odd and whilst they make half sizes, I had to go up a whole size from 8 to 9. Would recommend buying in-store rather than online (but use Go Outdoors’ excellent price matching offer).

Would I buy again? Probably not for for hillwalking but for daywalks they’re light and comfortable so maybe.

The best I've had

I bought a pair around two years ago and now have worn them to death, they are just the best. OK not the most waterproof but the most comfy and long lasting. In fact I'm going to get another pair soon just in case they stop making them.

Great boots

I bought these for a long charity hike I’m doing soon. Gave them a first try out yesterday and they were fantastic. Super comfy, grippy and not overly warm on what was a very hot day.

Can’t recommend these boots enough. Very glad I bought them.

Great help from the Go Outdoors team too. Good, helpful advice.

Good boot for English Mountains

Took them for a week in the Lake District and walked up mountains every day with no new blisters (averaging about 12 miles and 3000 foot of climbing). There were a couple of times when I would have preferred a slightly higher boot, but to be honest not often enough to justify the extra weight that would have brought.

Great boots and great price match!

Have just worn boots for first time ascending Snowdon. Immediately comfortable - no blisters! It wasn't very wet but boot stayed dry through some boggy ground.
I paid full price for these and then spotted milletts had on offer for £100 so went back to go outdoors the and got the price matched plus 10% off - so got some great boots for a lot less in end!
