Women's Footwear Size Guide

Measuring tips

Take your actual body measurements as they are more accurate than measuring over your clothes or shoes.

Feet: Use a ruler or tape measure to measure your foot (from the heel to the tip of your longest toe) Be sure to measure both feet.

Many people have feet of different sizes. Fit to the larger of the two.

Remember, feet can expand over a quarter size during a full day's walk so ensure you get the right fit.

Old Model was much better

We had the Cairngorm for several years and very pleased with them so decided to buy more when the old ones were finished.
New Cairngorms do not have the full length zip, only the Velcro, which makes them more time consuming to fit.
The makers probably make more profit by not fitting the zip - but they've now lost two customers permanently because we found an alternative, equal quality and with full length zip and Velcro - at half the price!

Good produce but......

I've had two sets. The product is fine, but the press studs and top lacing failed on both pairs within a year - about 100hr of usage each. The press studs either fall apart or pull away from the fabric, and the lacing breaks. But they are waterproof and fairly easy to fit.

great gaiters

I owned a pair of these around 5 years ago and they have been updated and slightly remodelled since then. they are very well made and extremely well thought out. there is just the right amount of gore-tex at the top and the bottom material is very tough and durable. these felt slightly less loose than the older ones I had but this is probably a good thing as they can transport the sweat away more efficiently now. I have had more expensive gaiters but these are really comfortable and they work really well so once i have wrecked these I will get another pair to replace them. I got really muddy hiking in these and they cleaned ever so well without leaving any marks at all.

Gaiter perfomance

The gaiters were easy to put on and adjust to fit comfortably. They did keep the mud off and the water out, but breathability was not as good as expected as condensation was found on the inside of the items after a few hours walking. Slightly dissapointing

Trekmates Cairngorm Gaiters

These are excellent Gaiters, so much so I had to buy a pair for my wife.
Below you wil find my tips which will mitigate against negatives in previous reviews.

To fit these gaiters,1) stretch out your leg straight and NB. V.Important, keep it in this position all the time at an angle away from your body and rest you boot on a ledge a few inches high' slip the strap under the instep. 2) fold the gaiters away from your leg ,holding the bottom velcrow edges of the gaiter. 3) Aligning squarley, fasten the bottom two inches of the velcrow (5cm) together and fasten the stud. 4) clip the gaiters to the bottom laces. 5) Align the velcrow, bottom to top, whilst pressing the velcrow together and fasten the stud. 6) tuck the Drawstring down the back of the gaiter: now it's out of harms way.

You will need to practice this a few times to get it right: when you do these gaiers will keep out the water. I treated mine with Nixwax so even the non Goretex parts are waterproof.

The straps shoud be trimmed, to approx one inch (2.5cm) above the buckle: this and the above fitting regime will ensure that the gaiters fit below the ankle/boot top and tight around the boot, enabling best performance and stop the straps from catching the other boot straps.

Trekmates Cairngorm Gaiters

I forgot to add the following to my first review of these excellent gaiters.

They can mitigate agains rain ingress to your boots when walking against the rain and your ankles get wet, water drips down from your trousers into your boots: waterproofs included.

Apart from obvious reasons, I wear these Trekmates Cairngorm Gaiters, almost every time: as you know there's almost always a wet section of path on any walk.

Wearing any gaiters (and more so Trekmates) 'per se' mitigates the problem of having to wear waterproof over trousers when dry weather is expected after rain when the long grass and land is wet.

Cleaning of these Gaiters is far easier than having to wash trousers. I just rinse the gaiters in a bucket of hand warm water for a few minutes and hang to dry..EASY!

My advice, do not hesitate buy them now.

Ask anybody who uses Gaiters and you will find that they swear by them and wouldnt go back to not wearing them: as I do.

Trekmates Cairngorm Gaiters

For years I was not particularly interested in Gaiters. They were a bit faddy and not what real rugged types wore. I'd wander off into the hills getting muddy and seeing it as a right of passage, the mud telling others that I had been places, and seen things. leaped tall mountains in a single... well not exactly but you get my point.
While planning for a walk last year (October 2012) along Hadrian's wall I had to conserve the amount of kit I carried. As some of the walk was going to be wet and boggy I decided to buy a pair these bad boys hoping that I could get away with wearing my trousers more than one day.
I was actually surprised how well they really helped keep me mud free and the gortex meant I was not wet like another who member of the walk whos gaiters were not gortex.
In short well worth the money keep you clean and dry. wish I'd bought a pair years ago

Could be much better

As others have said the Velcro-only fastening makes them difficult to fit. A previous pair from the same maker had zip & Velcro - much better. Also the fixings for the sturdy underfoot straps project & catch the other foot. Finally they still have the dangerous adjustment loop at the back which can trip crampon-wearers with fatal results.

If you want an honest review - I find these gaiters very frustrating to put on. Once aligned and on, one tends to forget about them, but they have no zip to align the two sides, and it is extremely difficult to get a good watertight seal with the wide velcro, as it grabs unaligned.
Would not buy again. Next pair I will buy will have a zip.

Trekmates Cairngorm gaiters

A good sturdy gaiter that are a good length and did the job they were supposed to do. Inside got a little damp after walking, though couldn't decide whether it was water ingress or sweat build up. There isn't a zip so attaching the Velcro can be a bit fiddly at times, though the Velcro is a decent width and holds well.
